Try/Fail #1

Trying a new jig minnow pattern I kinda like. Tried it, after watching a video. Well, needless to say, first one didn't come out quite right. So, it's a keep trying till I get it right. First pic is what it looks like wet... though dry it does look a bit deserved. Here's my first try. The Barble not cooperating at all. And there's too much dubbing.Ii'll have to make some adjustments to get it right.
On to try two after our oldest puppy gets to sleep. Bless her heart, she's got cataracts real bad, losing her hearing too. Chiuahua's not supposed to live to 22 yrs old. Not being afraid or ashamed of it, and willing to be criticized is how one learns.
My take on this jig...front and back views of the jig wet.
This was tied on a tube jig head, 1/16oz. It has some AZ Dubbing wound around the shank, then a Mallard flank feather Palmered around at the collar. The barrels of the feather didn't separate as they should have. Maybe wrapping another feather or two, ensuring the barbels seperated better, allowing for a better body.

Attempt number 2. Personally, I think it's better, but will wait for the fishes opinion. Same style hook, as well as materials used. I was wrong on the dubbing though. It is actually Hareline ICE Dub Calibaetis code on package is ICE50. Opinions and critiquing are welcome.
I did wrap a Barred flank feather on at the bend of the hook before making a dubbing loop for the Ice Dub. I also made smaller loops both in length as well as amount of dubbing, so I wound up doing that twice. Then wrapped two feathers in, one then the other, at the collar, on the body side of the hook eye. 4 or 5 mm eyes will cover the remainder of the head, as soon as I discover where I put them. They will be secured with UV Resin over and around them, giving the jig a big eye look.
Again opinions, critiquing is welcome. If you see something I can improve, please say something. We can't improve if honest critiquing isn't applied. Thanks for looking AND commenting. Eric,AKA Jamesdean. Tight lines everyone.

Yeah I think the fish will approve and not be as concerned as you about appearance. This isn’t really a style I tie but that first pic example is amazing representation of minnow. I would tie one on and dip in a glass of water and observe. Thats how the fish will see it. Those feathers should move around giving it an alive appearance. If something looks funny in the water then I would adjust the jig otherwise let’er rip! They look good to me.

As I have said in another post, I am not getting rid of the first one till it's not accepted by the fish. I wasn't happy with the way it turned out. Guess I rushed to finish it. Being in pain and being tired will do that. Tied it after a bad knee day and couldn't go to sleep. Knuckl on big toe of left foot swollen like I dropped a veg. Can on it, though I hadn't, and the knee of same leg, ( surgery leg), swollen and very sore. Needed ice I will see if I can get them tested this week.

The first picture looks like an EP Minnow tied with his fiber.
Otherwise, it looks like your version could stand to be thinned out and not be so bulky.

.rezz93, o it's not a EP fiber minnow. That is actually a fly. I was tied using a single barred slender feather with a Crystal type dubbing wound around the throat area, then brushed back over the feather to form the body. My idea for my jig cam from a fly tied by @flytyingtex on youtube. the video is Gadwall Feathers from my duck hunt, if someone can post it I would appreciate it.
It's one of the flies I tried to make into a jig version, and as I said, my influence for it came from @flytyingtex.

Ima tell ya what, Jamesdean .... if your 2nd tie (the brown one) doesn't flatten out when wet, to resemble a "minnow", then use it to fish for Bluegill, Shellcrackers, and other members of the PanFam ... cause it's a dead-on lookalike to the "Crickets" you buy at the bait store.

That is an Idea I hadn't thought of...Will for sure give it a go C.P. Thank you.

This video is for the very first picture. The video of what I was trying to copy/ imitate is also by the same tyer on YouTube, @flytyingtex, and its The Gadwall Feathers From My Duck Hunt...Just for perspective.

Not a complete failure, but still needs work. First try at something similar to Crappieguy82's minnow jig. Mine may never get as good looking as his, but I'll let the fish decide. I will say, it takes a lot of patience, and three or four sets of hands. As I said, first try...Attachment 496622

I used a 1/32 oz Waally world tube jig, craft fur, some mono sewing line frome Hoobby Lobby, some UV resin to hold the Thin Skin on the back...the green on the back is from a green sharpie...Will try again later...
