My 16’ rods already stick out the back of my boat while running around; another 1.5’ might be out past the end of the outboard cover on my 18’ boat with a 150 hp outboard.

Southern Crappie Rods might be the best kept secret in the scope game. Obviously they made a name in trolling rods.
As for the length, when you need it, you need it. You don't always, but when you do, you know.

Nice. I moved away from my Southern Crappie rods to ACC crappie stix due to the rod weight. Might have to give these a look.

Sorry don't know about American market, but definitely not the lightest or longest available out of Japan. I get that most are not shopping for rods out of Japan but I'm ruined after experiencing Japan quality rods. Way to heavy for an old man like me. Scott

Ronnie Capps had a 27 footer custom made in Japan and it cost him 300 bucks. Best I remember it weighed about 3 ounces. That was not considered a high end rod. Some of those long rods go for over a 1000 bucks. Be happy to tell you all you want to know about Japanese rods. The longest rod I have ever purchased out of Japan is an 8 footer. I am strictly a cast and retrieve and I have about 2 dozen JDM rods priced from about 180$ up to 500$. Once most people hear the price of rods out of Japan they are through talking about Japanese rods. All I own are higher end rods. But you can get some rods for about 130$ that will blow most 200$ US market rods out of the water.

Thanks Randy. Do these longer rods have guides, I think the one Capps had made didn't have guides or a reel set.

I'm not the guru like Randy but I'm almost certain the rod he used had guides but don't think he fished it with a reel. I remember videos of him fishing it and since the rod is telescoping he would collapse the sections to land a fish. Pretty much would have to I think as I don't think you could swing a crappie in the boat with a 27'+ rod. Keeping in mind that with a rod that long even without a reel you could fish for crappie 26+ fish deep. Yes, definitely not for everyone as like Randy I'm not a single pole fisherman but rather cast and retrieve my high end Japanese ultralights which was kind of my point, that there are rods out there for those who want to go down the rabbit hole that you can't buy in America, sadly! You're talking Tenkara style rods.
Yes there are longer lighter rods in THAT style, I own one, as well as the OP, but I just don't think the versatility is there like it is with a traditional style rod such as this.
Once you get past 12ft or so, you're talking specific tools with a specific purpose, and little cross over of applications.
