The bird used it's beak as a spear to make sure the bass was killed before swallowing. Amazing aim, I would never believe it if I didn't see it. Great video.
them birds are rather dangerous if you confront one , all the cranes and herons strike like a snake and have a spear on the end , it has been said in these parts ,never take your bird dog crane hunting , just saying .....Quote:

My wish would be to see the last heron and cormorant in existence choke to death on a fish. I watch them decimate fish populations every day. Herons are well known to eat mammals as well as other birds, especially baby ducks.
A guy I used to work with and his father built several fresh water prawn ponds several years ago when the market was hot. They watched the banks be lined with herons eating prawns until they could barely fly off. They built fences, barriers, everything imaginable to stop the herons. They finally enlisted F&W who came out to investigate. The final solution was a .22/250 round for each one caught in the act. A backhoe provided cover.

we tried to get a permit to make cormorants go away from our ponds they were hammering , it was frustrating as heck to see them eat thousands of dollars worth of fish , BUT ,them wildlife agents , don't want you to kill them or the cranes ,,,,,,Quote:
