....that uses a Rock-it fish scaler anymore? I certainly do get ALOT of looks when I put my smaller 9"-10" crappies in the basket to clean as "on-the bone". This eliminates any scaling and gutting at the house and me and my son LOVE eating the bone-in fish vrs the fillets.

I never heard of this thing. Had to watch a youtube video of folks skiing it across the lake. Video endings were kinda shady with results being edited to heres a fish that came out of it
I have heard of them but never seen one in action. The only fish I scale is bluegill/bream and I still use a spoon for that.
Those things have been around for a lot of years. Used a similar one back in early 70’s. When I arrived in Saudi in 1980 I went downtown to buy fresh chicken, meaning live. After I paid they killed the chicken and threw it in a similar device, just larger. It was run by an electric motor. That chicken come out of there without a single feather still attached.[emoji23] It occurred to me that would never fly in the US in today’s world. It sure did a good job, as did the scaler. My family ate a lot of fish back in the day, and there were a lot of us. Sometime in mid 70’s family started filleting all fish. Not sure what happened to the scaler.

looks like a cricket cage to me ....never seen such either .....but we rarely eat whole fish

Never used em but have known about them for a good while. It would make prep easier and less messy.
You cut off the heads and slit the belly and throw them into the basket. Once your boat is on plane you carefully let the basket out the back of your boat. My rope is about 25'. Once deployed you pull the basket 400-500 yards (less distance than that for just a few fish in the basket) and when you stop and pull in your basket the fish are cleaned and ready for the ice chest. With the basket there's no more scaling them at home after a day's fishing trip. All that is needed before cooking is rinse off the lake water and batter them up for the grease.:)
When my wife bought me the first basket it cost $25 back some 40 years ago but now the price is up to near $100.

I learned how to filet fish when I was 12 ( about 60 years back)
I don't think I have scaled a fish since.
