That sounds like trouble for sure
It’s tax return time!
Oh no….. nothing good can come from this….lol.
Boy oh boy, pretty shiny colors everywhere! Chenilles, flash, rubber legs, feathers, glue, thread, wire....so many that I have never seen before. My imagination runs wild!
Kid in a candy store syndrome for sure...Only good thing that comes of this is some awesome jigs. Can't wait to see them.
Not sure what's going on at my local fly shop. Last few times in, there were more empty hooks than had products. I hope they get it straightened out. Next closest fly shop is an over an hour away...Ouch. That's not a big box store. The home BPS store and warehouse is here...
Thanks Eric. Tied up some size 10 3xl wet skunk variations today along with a couple bluegill jig-flies. New flash, rubber legs, synthetic peacock herl in 2 colors were used with more materials to try. Giving up on posting pics. They just don't turn out well.
Guess I'm just stubborn. I either figure it out, or break down and get help. Our problem today is we didn't grow up with all this electronic gadgetry the kids are today. Give most of them a standard tranny, a rotary phone, a type writer, an old fashioned crank copy machine, and an encyclopedia and they would be as lost or worse than we are...lol
I have two awesome fly shops within 15 minute drive for me. When I first started tying 30 years ago I made weekly visits to both and this went on for many years. Have enough now that I could start a fly/jig shop. Been meaning to sell off a bunch of materials but too lazy. Used to buy marabou by the pound and have flash in 1 oz. and larger for back in the day when I was tying wholesale, even did some fishing sport shows for awhile. Retired from all of that and have enough materials that I couldn't use it all in several lifetimes. Still hit the shops but have a little more discipline now than I did before. Except last year when the Stardust paint came out and dropped a few hundred on that. Like how jigs turned out with it but haven't used it in months. When it comes to fishing I'm a hoarder.
I have two monster bass pro shops and, sportsmanswarehouse and a sports academy and no one has what I need,,,,lol
Sounds like "winner winner fish dinner"! Any pics of those new ties?
This is a well stocked shop, high end trout/ guide shop, but he doesn't have everything! I am embarrassed to take pics anymore. Old tech phone and old tech user, pics just don't show these jigs/flies off very well.
Dam I swear your story matches mine. My job was 5 minutes from Barlow Tackle. I use to go twice a week and buy tying materials. They closed in-house shopping and went online shopping only when COVID hit. I have not purchased anything from them since then. I have enough materials for 5 lifetimes but still buy if it is a super deal. I guess this addiction is better drugs or drinking.
RUN NOW!!! LOL
I wish my credit card would just ask me if I really needed this stuff!:biggrin
I enjoy tying flies/jigs. We used to get all kinds of stuff mail order - had an old geezer teach me about 40 yrs ago, guy was good.
I'll probably start again once I find me a good brim/bluegill/shellcracker area and start fly fishing again.
So does Ms. Joyce. Banned me from BPS for awhile. She's either accepted that I go, or just don't say anything anymore. She has requested I leave price tags on stuff, and put prices on stuff that don't have one so IF I kick the bucket first, she'll have an idea of what to ask for stuff when she sells it...At least she's waiting till I'm gone, HA,Ha.
Years ago I had the same problem at a traditional/primitive archery shop. I stop one day and the owner said my wife had been in and I wasn't allowed to buy anything unless I had a note from her!
I haven't tied anything in a couple of years. I only had a really cheap clamp on vise. I say HAD because I made a trip to the fly shop today.
Came home with a new vise, some Chenelle, flash, thread and bobbin.
Get after it!
Like riding a bike.
Nirvana V2 rotary vice. Did a Google search for fly shops near me. Didn't know this place existed. called the guy to see if he actually stocked vices. Surprisingly for being out in the country he stocks seven models of Renzetti and regal vices. Plus the Nirvana I got. Attachment 482201Attachment 482202

Nice, congrats
Great looking vise. Tying is like riding a bike, only easier on the body,LOL.
I'm really glad I don't need anything!! I've only really bought some old Targus craft fur cause it was such a steal of a buy! My painted jig head supply is high and still have more poured that aren't painted. I didn't do much fishing or tying last year as I was at my Dads helping to take care of him before he passed away.
