Lots of choices now but i really love my Peak rotary vise.
Thanks super Dave I just went to peak website and they are made in USA to
Peak gets my vote also but a less expensive one might be a good choice until you decide how much you want to get into tying.
I like my Griffen spyder cause I'm cheap........rotfl
Peak is a good vice as is the Renzetti Traveler 2000 model. Both offer either the table clamp or pedistal mount with no difference in price for the different mounts. I truely love my Renzetti.
Seems like when I see this questioned ask on crappie groups they mostly reply Peak. When I see it asked other fly tying groups I see Renzetti mostly replied.
I was in Tennessee years ago at a fly shop and they had several Renzettis on display but at the time didn’t do much tying or I might’ve bought one. I really liked them. Fast forward to now and I do mostly tie so I stopped at Bass Pro to look at a Peak and had every intention of buying it. I ended up walking away. Just something about it didn’t sell me.
if you’re looking for something a little cheaper the Nirvana V2 gets my vote. Can get 10% off if you sign up for email list and free shipping bringing it to under $130.

:popcorn following…looking for a cheap vice
Stay away from the Regal Revolution...I had one and didn't like it at all. Not a true center rotation. It will rotate but you cant make the shank of a hook truly center. That's important to me because I tie a lot of hair jigs and spin a thread ball on the shank to hold the hair.
Thank you guys I appreciate every response and research each vice suggested .
I recommend going to a fly tying expo and talking to the tiers and exhibitors about the various vices and the best application for your personal style and use. The tiers will generally let you try out their vices so you can get a feel for the nuances of each brand. You will find the Peak vice very popular due to the price though.
Another thing to consider. Get something in your budget and see if you even enjoy tying. I'm one who enjoys pouring lead and painting it way more than tying. Buying tied jigs is cost prohibitive to me so I tie my own jigs jigs. I got a Griffin my self but don't do production work. Welcome to the addiction my friend.:cheers2
I have a Renzetti and I have tied on a Peak. It's the same as the Chevy/Ford discussion. I would be happy with either. If I wanted a budget vise It would be the Griffin spider.
As far as which vise is the best. To me the only thing that is important is that it can rotate that is a must.
I'm kinda old school I started out on an old Thompson Model A and still have it!! but I bought a Dyna King Kingfisher years ago and still use it, BUT I'm shocked at how much one is today!!! As has been suggested look for a fly tying club or a show and see if you can put hands on the vise's!! Because of my likes I'd say a Dyna King but lots of the guys here use the Peak, it all depends on how much you want to spend but I'd start with something cheap to see if you'll even like tying your own!! Not all of us are material junkies!! LOL
Here's a bit of info you didn't ask for, but I think is important to let new tyers know Before they set off on this new to them adventure. Don't let the tying material catalogs control your wallet. As much as you want to jump in and tie all the different types and colored jigs out there, start with one, maybe two colors/patterns. Tie them over and over then over again. By repeating the same one over and over you will improve your skills. If you don't use any type of glue in the process, you can strip the materials off the jig and retie it. Kind of like learning team sports or even golf, doing drills over and over to learn the skills. Once satisfied you got those down, then move on to the next skills. Lots and lots of videos on line by great tyers to help. And don't limit your influences to just jig tyers, as tying jigs and tying fly's are extremely similar, as in same type materials, and tying methods. Good luck on your new adventure in jig tying, and welcome to the empty pockets club...
I went to a shop today it was overwhelming with all the materials. it was like overload trying to decide what to get .I Got some pink purple and chartreuse materials to start .I don't like feathers much right now .the Marabou with chenille body I'm doing pretty good with that .I will say I want to go crazy and get every color and kind of material but I got to just calm down !
I've developed a serious problem real quick and I blame all you guys that keep posting pictures of all the awesome jigs you tied . I just couldn't take it I need me some !
It is an addiction! :Rofl
I settled on a white river vise for $22. Wanted it for another indoor project
That's what I was trying to warn you about...I call it "Small child in the Candy Store Effect". I consider myself a rookie at tying yet, even after 8 yrs. of off/on tying. Walk in a tyers shop, and my head goes bonkers...sometimes I'll get everything I think I went for, and many things I didn't, and will have to go back because I forgot a key ingredient in a pattern I wanted to tie. Way to many distractions for sure. I'm looking forward to seeing some of your ties, so be sure to post them up.
I went to the fly fishing show in Atlanta a couple of weeks ago. The vise most professional there used was the nor-vise line of vises. I will say it’s the most impressive vise I saw but also the most expensive.
I use a Griffin Spider. It’s a great vise to get stared tying with. I’ve used mine for over twenty years and used it a lot. It’s getting to where it’s getting hard to turn. I’ve always kept it lubricated. I called to discuss the problem and the replacement parts were almost as much as I paid for the vise when I first bought it. So I looked at vises at the show and for my budget it came down to the Peak or the Renzetti. I’m still back and forth on which one to purchase. I’m most likely going to purchase the Renzetti 2000
Anyone have a suggestion where to buy bulk unpainted jig heads ? I went to a local shop that has bigger size bulk heads but they would knot order me crappie jigs said to much of a hassle to ship them and they were just unwilling to help me out .
Litewire hooks
Woods and Water outdoors
Limits Tackle
I love jigs
you could also post a WTB in personal classified forum.
You can try at Simply Crappie...Your one stop source for all your crappie fishing needs! but he goes by Bugman here on the site
Oh yeah can’t forget I forgot Simply Crappie. Jamie does a good job and has almost every kind.
Thanks for all the great information .I couldn't see the entire woods and water site on my Kindle so I didn't see the jigs .my wife had to show me to click on desk top screen I'm not to good on computers .again thanks the people on crappie.com .
I would buy a Law vise if I had the money. Can you believe the price they are wanting for them?
Another vote for Simply Crappie for jig heads
and I like J. Stockard for supplies and materials
