Wonderbread Jigs
I painted these using red, white, blue and yellow powder paints and swirled paint on head while still hot with my half hitch tool before baking. These are 1/16 with a #4 sickle. Broke out some mallard flank, flash and bunny hair and red thread which is actually FL.Orange and here they are. Trying to fill in some of the time between fishing trips. I think the new swirling technique makes the heads look like tiny planets, out of this world. Attachment 480232Attachment 480234Attachment 480235Attachment 480236

Very nice looking Jigs and Ties for sure JungleJim.

The finish on these heads are super hard. Took one outside and was throwing it on the concrete. ten hard throws and not one chip. Paint jobs are very durable. Going to tie more today now that I have some silicon tails from Andy.

Very creative and innovative jigs JJ1! The swirl heads are so cool. Your ability to "fold over" the mallard flank feathers is impressive! Great looking jigs. I'll bet the crappie love them.
What makes the powder enamel so hard? Just mixing the colors?

I think it's multiple color layers that bind together during the baking process. I make deep cuts with the half hitch tool into the paint while head is hot, sometimes reheat a couple seconds before making the cuts and swirls. It looks nasty after I do it but once they are baked grooves fill in. I always start with a cold oven and outside layers heat and start moving before the inside layers. In my opinion the head is the most important part of the jig because it's what FISH see first. If they see the tail first it's already past them. Using multiple colors on a jig increases the probability of it being seen.

Another great tie. Showed it to my wife and she agreed but wondered why I couldn’t make my ties that nice.
