I know one lake near Orlando Disney land that actually has the shape of mickey mouses head , that for sure has big red ear in it ....
Lake George near Deland, FL....outstanding bream fishery.
I occasionally catch bluegills up to 9 1/2 “ out of our Town Pond since they’ve made it catch and release a couple years ago.
I’ve found ponds are the best places for big gills .
Thanks for the replies. Looking for places to travel around and fish. Nearing retirement and cannot wait to fish all over all year!

I fish the St. John’s river between lakes Harney and George and do well most days during the warmer months. This one was just over ten inches. I got 7 or 8 of those this past summer and I lost count of those over 9”. No live bait, just jigs. Lots of the local lakes also produce like this but access can be an issue. It was a fun season this past summer.

Oops, two more in Tennessee I just thought of....Dale Hollow and Center Hill. Both have monster Bluegills and big Shellcrackers.
Many great bluegill lakes in the south east. In all likelihood you will get bigger fish in GA....MS...FL.....SC....AL. And TN does not have copper nose as the other SE states do. Of course TN is known for Reelfoot Lake.....produces good bluegill. Folks that do not know about Dale Hollow will over look it for bluegill. It is fantastic for them. You will catch a ton of 9-9.5 inch fish and in a day will have several at the 10 inch mark. And will probably get into shell cracker on your trip. I used to drive 118 miles one way to fish that lake....in the spring tearing it up for 2-3 weeks, 5 days a week. Not to mention the scenic beauty of the place....water is extremely clear. If you decide to go send me a PM and I can tell you right where to go...and which ramp to launch out of.
Regards
I would expand my range and fish Lake Havasu in Arizona for the monster redear it is known for. Had a friend go and he said those fish look like they are on steroids. Do some research and see what it has to offer.
If I was able physically, Lake Havasu is the lake I would go to. Monster shellcracker
Attachment 479511 Havasu redear are huge. I fished it once with Sonny and got this 4-09 lber in 2015. World record was caught there, over 6lbs. Hope to fish it again one day.
Which one??

A good late winter, early spring is lake havasu az. Awesome red ear, and bluegill, have caught them to 3.5 lbs. record is in the 6lb range.
if your looking for a retirement spot this is one to check out.
some very nice fish there.
Tippah lake holds Mississippi record for red ear (3.33). It is a state lake . Lamar Bruce, lake monroe, trace are all decent . there will be a few 15 inchers out of each per year but numbers are way down from the 70's . Back then fishing from the bank was free , now its like $5.00 . these came from Trace .Santee Cooper with "whitey Outlaw "would first stop on the way to Havasu . I am a sucker for cypress swamps . lol this is my personal best from our own 5 acre lake . Attachment 481148Attachment 481149 Attachment 481150
