How did you obtain permission sir! I what kind of assistance are you looking for?
Build it and they will come
Have informally spoken to both Ohio Dept of Natural Resources and the Corps of Engineers but still need to get formal permission from both after the 1st of the year which seems to be likely at this time. Will be placing brush blocks this time and hopefully will be asking for assembly help as well as boats ( open bow pontoon boats work best )willing to carry them to their final resting spots
Will contact ODNR today and ask their formal permission to add the 300(ish) hardwood/ cedar brush blocks as approved by all under the previously agreed terms and conditions. Hopefully they will approve this…
I hope so. Keep us posted.
No word yet but realize they’re busy doing their jobs and am hopefully patient…
Nothing yet. COE is informally a “ yes “ depending on ODNR. Stopped out at the Marina, brutally cold with no visible holes drilled yet, would guess 3” of ice inside the breakwaters. Getting the cat’s claws warmed up for this weekend…
No word yet from ODNR, will contact them again this week. Will be in the Marina and/ or main boat ramp from 4ish till after dark tomorrow
Lasted about 1 hour, 2 glo ice jigs about 10” apart, no bait, no snags, no hits. Sunny but rather brisk N wind, will try again tomorrow better equipped. Skunked the last 3x is getting old, they gotta eat sometime before spring, right ? Oh, for several live 2- 3” shiners…
Was seriously considering trying the hump in the mouth of the Marina tomorrow 1- 2ish, any and all are formally invited to meander out upon with me ( but BYOBait ).
Settled for the middle of A dock NW corner of the Marina, 1 definite hit on a “ glo “ 1/ 16th ice jig with a crappie minnow. Awaiting safer ice…
Am looking for a gently used 6” manual ice auger if anyone might have 1 lying about…
Soon safe ice shall be here…
Apparently the overall ice is 5” at this time. Briefly spoke to 1 of 2 well equipped individuals whom were fishing on the S side of the Visitor’s Center lower parking lot approximately 120’ E of the seasonal dock landing along the old creek channel which was eroded into the limestone bedrock ledges on both outside edges of the 180 degree curve there. Last viewed this area on sonar 6- 7 years ago and the outside curves on both outside edges varied from 2- 5’ steep falloff’s into the old creek bed. In the past this spot regularly produced walleyes and several large smallmouths as well as other species. Hope they do well…
Pop ups on A, D and G docks, that lonely as of yet unfished hump is calling me outward… really soon!
Gratefully acquired TinGuppy’s gently used Strike Master auger and after it showing me who’s the boss, a couple of rests and a smoke break later finally successfully punched thru and even re-augered the steadily refreezing hole got but 1 light tap mostly dead sticking with the seemingly increasing S wind doing an impressive job self jigging the very sensitive spring for me. Sad to say saw and heard but few fish caught this afternoon. As the sun sets the magic hour will be on… “ Tomorrow ! Tomorrow! You’re only a day away ! “ and no wind hopefully !

Well, again got a single hit off the end of H dock, auger’s still working me. Saw several bluegills caught off of the inside elbow of the S breakwater (12A ) and the heave appears to be mostly across the mouth of the Marina. Still got minnows and red worms so…
Just scrubbed vigorously however without even a decent hit today really needed it. Fished approximately 10’ S of the buoy off of the large white drainage pipe on the N side of the main boat ramp in 12- 14’ then 20- 30’ of the NE corner of same boat ramp again with nare a nibble. But still have minnows so…
Am chicken pecking this with the clothes pin securely in place, having so far endured 4 skunking in a row. Beat up yesterday’s farthest hole off the NE corner of the boat ramp while several others tried the drainage tile buoy. Both gravel pits ere being fished as left, the guys fishing the closer 1 said in passing that they had marked several fish on its point but none were caught ( which made me feel a little better ). So has ANY ONE actually caught anything ?
Fished the rental dock 2cnd slip outboard atop the pile of cement blocks there in a bio- hazard suit in 8- 10 foe, nada. The heave is now 4/5ths across the mouth of the Marina. A visiting guy from Gallipolis was kind enough to share that fishing the southern gravel pit he did pretty well night fishing it including a walleye and several keeper crappies. Had no idea that the point in it was quite so eroded but apparently his map showed the remains of the reef placed there. He added he caught several big bluegills and a perch on the basin between the pit and main boat ramp. Wished him well. Tomorrow am resorting to the Mark 6 300lb WW2 depth charge with a delayed hydrostatic detonator safely offshore of course…
No apparent luck with the depth charge, man, the fishing is really tough right now…
Spent the day scouting, time spent in recon is is seldom wasted. To the intrepid soul fishing the southern gravel pit, likely in a puddle of not so warm water enjoying the 15mph SW wind with gusts upto 20, you have my respect and admiration ! Wish you success…

Stopped to gaze upon the marina and gravel bar as well as the main boat ramp. Several gulls diving repeatedly in the draft off the NE corner there but too brisk to seriously attempt to give it a cast, although casting with the breeze should’ve gotten some extra distance…
Now am tasked with completely gutting our bathroom and the shower to bare studs and sub siding. Have committed to the Sanctuary of the commode which shall not be unavailable despite the rest of the room closely resembling an active war zone or natural disaster site. And YES ! It IS possible even if ungodly expensive to Roman engineer a residential bathroom ! Am seriously thinking of cement boarding the whole @#$& thing just for the enjoyment of doing so. Her jaw literally fell open in disbelief at the cost of an imported Italian basin, she wasn’t buying it, literally. It’s the little things that make a temple…
I’m with ya…price a large outdoor playsets. Needless to say our great grandson got one. Assembly begins tomorrow.
Have sincere respect and admiration for the not inconsiderable time and effort required to properly and safely install said outdoor play station, have the utmost confidence in your abilities to do so but on the good side you won’t be constrained with keeping a fully functioning and on demand toilet up and running during your effort ! Am almost willing to trade projects…
While not completely finished with the former bathroom, having only completely gutted, rewired ( 2 new GFI plug ins, 2 new lighted switches, a new high volume shower fan/ light ), removing a previously leaking and beautifully fully self frosting over ( winter time only, thankfully ) exterior window and successfully boarding its hole up as well as completely insulating that wall, leveling the old tub she insisted on keeping, as well as installing individual shut off valves for said tub/ shower and a new hot/ cold 2 knob valve body, securing the previously loose shower pipe and then hanging green/ blue board rather than the cement board would have rather used next to the tub, the muddying the whole thing, every @#$& seam apparently she got tired of having to do dainty things in the still unfinished and still wreckage strewn area closely resembling the Stalingrad battleground. She has decided my muddying and sanding efforts closely resemble those of a ten thousand strong herd of bison running at full gallop across a marshy area to put it politely. When politely challenged she did indeed do a fairly decent corner but the tape ( personally insisted on mesh, but hey, what do I know, right?) wasn’t having it and alas didn’t docilely adhere and stick, instead reading up a considerable distance on the 1 side. So, she’s hiring the rest out… i yield to her decision

They are always right.
Any news on this year's ice fishing adventures on CJ Brown? Surely you have fishable ice under the 18" of snow you got last weekend.
Was out at CJ Marina today visiting and asked a guy headed to his truck for something, he said there is 5+” inside the Marina itself with slightly less in the Marina mouth. From past experience would guess there is 4” on the main lake at least which is good enough for me personally with the exception of the gravel pit on the S end of the gravel bar NNW of the Marina which is almost always the last spot to completely freeze over. That spot WILL have much thinner ice due to the warmer water that comes from its spring. If you attempt fishing this really good spot take a friend and ALL your safety gear and use caution please. Btw there are several dozen “C “ trees on the Main boat ramp. Any ideas whom is in charge ? Might be willing to help…
