Yeah you can catch fish but all you do is stare at a screen the whole time!

I grew up working on computers. Those green screens in the early days. This reminds me exactly of my computer operator days. Not fun, too many flash backs. Maybe when the resolution on them dots I'm watching gets to maybe 4k it'll be more fun. Lol

I wasn’t sure if I was gonna tell this, but this past Saturday I tried it. I’ve had the equipment for months now, and just couldn’t make myself quit trolling long enough to try it. Saturday I said sink or swim, left all my crankbaits and linecounters at home. I mostly sank. Got it tuned in, can see my jig and fish well. Had at least 50 fish, who knows what kind, run up and look but no bite. Tried holding still, wiggling, taking it away, then dropping slow. Had one hookup but came unstuck before I saw the fish. Got dizzy, disoriented several times looking up after staring at the screen so long. Gonna try again and hopefully run into some cooperative fishies. Probably take some minnows next time. But not sure how serious I’m gonna get with it.Quote:

I have considered it many times. Just can't bring myself to buy it. Last time put I never even looked at the graph other than the chart as a navigation aid.
Ive come to the realization lately, especially since getting Hbird lakemaster map chip - if had to give up sonar completely it wouldn’t be much of handicap. I look at it, but knowing where the drops and humps are is way more valuable to me.Quote:

I have it on the new boat. I turned it on and set everything then turned it off. I like my Panoptix transducer but I'm not using it either right now. More on Ross Barnett than here. I don't think a Human can pay complete attention to more than one Sense at a time. If you're staring at a screen you can't be 100% tuned in to feeling the jig pole aka Bite. Just my :twocents. I also think those who can tune in the Bite and tune out everything else catch more fish.Quote:

I use LS for verification only. Locate fish(dock or brush) then point LS at target for distance & depth. Stop Transmission on LS and fish..

Well I never have understood the fascination with watching a screen when you go fishing. It just isn't what fishing is about to me. I'll find my fish by casting for them. Or I won't. But that's OK too. I'm out on the water and relaxing. I am sure most of you catch more fish than me. But I enjoy it just as much without any electronics.
I love it myself. Not only is it educational as far as the fish it’s a huge time saver. Instant feedback to change color, bait, profile, presentation or just move on. You do lose some of the surprise element of a fish biting but you can always look away once you’ve located them which I do many times. When I’m fishing in heavy brush I’m typically not looking at the screen, it gets too busy. I’ve also caught many in open water that I wouldn’t have otherwise.

I do enjoy my time but I’m only able to go about 5 hrs one day a week. I like to try catching and not just fishing. Even if I don’t catch any though I thoroughly enjoy my time away in peace and outdoors.

I’ve learned to crappie fish by finding them and over the years I’ve taken pride I. Figuring them out and getting those I could to bite. I never catch em all, sometimes I get less than Slab. I’m also a proponent of just being there, fish or no fish. I have lots of memories of good days catching fish but just as many of a sunrise or bioluminescence or the huge fish that came and looked at my bait and swam away, me almost screaming with excitement. I don’t need a screen for any of that. I hope those of you that have it enjoy it and have fun chasing fish.
Same as above! for the most part I use it as a tool not a tv to set and watch! Sometime I never turn it on ! Sometimes I never turn it off :biggrin
I could care less if I’ve pulled another crank bait or another jig! Prolly will sell all that stuff one these days I have learned so much about fish with it in the short year that I’ve used it ! I have seen times where I couldn’t catch fish with it but way more times have I caught fish with it than with out it! Never thought I’d have it but now that I have it I’ll never be without it just in case I want to turn it on and use it it will be their .
I agree. Some of us go fishing not to load the cooler, but for a peace of mind. I enjoy my time on the water. I catch my share just fine, plenty in the freezer. Not going to stare at a screen.Quote:

would it make fish bite , nope , would it secure fish in the box , nope ,but it will and often does educate those that are not as educated on how crappie behave and reduces the learning curve greatly .
now mind you this , when I go with folks that have it , I go with the flow and try to use it as specified , the downside for me is the I can't look at it for very long as it for sure takes me off my game at some point on the trip .
if I was serious about ketch crappie I might own a unit , but it is just a hobby and I like visualizing what is going on below me and figuring out how to ketch them on my own .
one thing for certain about ketchn crappie though , some kind of electronics if you are in a boat makes a huge difference in finding them .
I personally love standing on docks and ketchn them , best way I know to hammer crappie is to stand really still right on top of them for sure , just saying

Get you a big aquarium and put a limit of crappie in it. Cheaper than LS and no dots. 3D images. That's an advantage I don't want so I'll pass on LS. I watch fishing on youtube. I like Richard Gene and Cousin Edo and a few more. I use to watch several more. But when I see that pole and screen on their bow now days, I done with'em. Sorry guys, but it's a turn off to me. At 62, I'm thinking about selling my bass boat and getting a 1648 jon boat and scale back even more. On our rivers here the sloughs are about 75% cut off now from access anyway. If the river isn't up 2-3 feet you can't get in them.
it's about feeling the brush and guessing where to drop the jig, sideshooting the docks to get under it where the fishies especially the bigger ones hang out. then you move till you find them hunting them up. Do ask the fancy lads with their LS's if they would scan the dock I'm on out of curiousity and dang if they crappie arn't in other area than I;m fishing for that moment. I watch the video's of the dudes sitting there like zombies staring at a screen instead of enjoying their surroundings and FEELING THE THUMP and sorry won't watch or subscribe or even stay watching as it's totally irrelevant to vast majority of fisherfolk.Quote:

Hey Ed you always seemed to do real well with your normal trolling for them as I have been on the boat with you. don't really see you ketchn more having that screen dictating your fishing.
I’m thinking about trying to incorporate slip bobber/jig rig into the mix next time I try LS. I don’t have any of the super long rods (yet) and felt like I was too close to the boat, spooking fish last time out.

I never had a long rod until livescope and then I could see just how many were leaving before I could drop on them with my shorter rods. And pitching/casting works unless they are skittish. Even the tiniest splash will spook them. Stealth and dropping on them best for those days. I feel no one fit all solution to these finicky fish. :twocents
My livesope don't make me keep fish, in fact I've kept less fish since having it. Oh and I enjoy my time on the water also.Quote:
