*Yes you can fish & enjoy it without catching fish. This video isn't for you. *Yes you can catch 100's of Crappie per month. This video isn't for you well kinda. :crazy: *I want to hear from average people. Everyone isn't catching 15+ Crappie when they go out to fish. So I want to hear from the people who normally "DON'T TALK OR COMMENT AS WELL" on the following questions because there is a misconception on just how many people are catching a bunch of fish with or without Forward Facing Technology. Sure you see Guides, Pro's, Semi-Pro's, & Fishing Legends like Ketchn & Spencer Andrews, etc who don't need electronics, & people who can fish post pics & videos. However these people are the "EXCEPTION & NOT THE RULE". Let's talk to the majority of people, there is no shameful amount. QUESTIONS:1. In 4 Trips per month how many limits are you catching?2. In 4 Trips per month what is your average amount of fish caught per trip?

I think I qualify to answer this question. When I go crappie fishing I typically can expect to catch 5-15 crappie a trip. I'm at the ramp at sun up and I typically fish to around noon. I consider less than 5 fish a bad trip. I consider catching a limit as a great day. I do both at a even rate of about once every two months. It took me 7 hours to catch my last limit which was 3 months ago. Looks like the weather is going to allow me to fish Tawakoni in the morning. I will likely catch between 5-15 but you never know until you try. My boat is only 14ft so if the wind is bad I will likely stick with the two mile bridge. If the wind is not bad there will be some docks that will be flipping baits under.

Grainraiser you will more than likely forget more about T-Wok than I will learn because "I DON'T KNOW THAT LAKE" but when I went to T-Wok 10-22-23 (Sunday) & fished from 12:30pm - 4pmish I had zero Crappie but plenty of Sand Bass until I regrouped & found a pattern & limited out from 4pmish to 6pmish. This is where I found them below. But this is where the situation ties EXACTLY INTO WHAT THE POST IS ABOUT!. I had 3 other boats venture over there possibly due to seeing me catch fish & I only saw them in total catch maybe 4 Crappie. The Sand Bass were at the top of the Water Column & they were not fishing for the Crappie that were down below. This is what I mean about having F.F.T. (Forward Facing Technology) you can see fish but if you don't have the discipline nor understand what you are looking at or looking for you "ARE STILL NOT GOING TO PRODUCE FISH".

In the real story that I spoke about on the 6 Lake Fork Guys from Waco, Tx in the video you know what they did all day?:confused: They chased the "CATFISH THAT WERE ON THE TREES IN GROUPS THAT I SAW ALL DAY & THEY WONDERED WHY THEY WERE GETTING HIT VS NOT BIT" :Rofl:biggrin I saw the same pattern on Fork that day so I left those area when I saw them. They were chasing the wrong species but desiring another. :Rofl When I spoke to the one guy & asked him if he was getting yanked then never hooked up & he said yes, I told him that's why the 1 guy caught the Catfish. That's what smaller cats do when they are curious. They hit the bait with the hardest part of their mouth & teeth to shred it then eat it on the fall. They were snatching their lines with that tug & by the time those guys could try to hook set that fish was probably half way around a tree 10 foot away. rotflrotflrotflrotfl:RoflAttachment 473854 I really want to hear you catching DOUBLE DIGITS WITH PICS!!! I got a Livescope unit back in Jan and have not used it much yet. My mom was sick so I missed the pre-spawn. It's not very helpful when they are in 2ft of water during the spawn. Due to the intense heat I typically only fish under bridges during the summer but I did get to learn it a bit along among the bridge colums.

That area of the lake you highlighted is also good for splat fishing for catfish. Cormants eat alot of fish but they have poor digestive system. When they roost they release all of those partially digested fish back into the water and the catfish come a running once it hits the water. Just rig a shrimp on a float and toss it in the roosting area. If catfish are present they will hit the bait within 30 seconds. Lots of catfish are caught by this method and Tawakoni is known for some huge blue catfish. It's a unique way to put some fish in the boat.

The red area is where they were you are absolutely correct. The cats on the tree's were sitting "VERTICAL" like Algae Eaters in a fish Tank. I knew I was in the wrong spot but the Sand Bass were soo big & fun to catch. I'm not one that enjoys catching catfish but on a Slip Cork with Chicken Skin & a treble hook at that time of year I can tell you that I do enjoy it. The Crappie are where the Green is up to 200 yards off that Creek Channel. Further than that to where it got read and it was Cat & SandBass CITY!. I’m weird. I’m anal about a lot of things but keeping count of my fish I’m horrible. I have fish counters and don’t use. Most lakes here are 37 limit but I’ve never kept that simply because I hate cleaning fish. Shoots I fished my whole life and actually hated to eat fish. Threw back everything. Wasn’t until I had kids years back that I started keeping some simply because they like it. I still throw back most my fish and when I do keep I try to keep no more than 15. I fished 5 days last week on vacation. Was a finicky bite all week. Lots of looky loo’s and bait chasers. I would say I averaged 20-30 catches a day but only kept anything 12” and up with maybe a few 11” which I gave away each day. I felt I did bad because bite wasn’t like I wanted and wasn’t catching quality fish like I was wanting. I was humbled each day though as when I gave away my keepers each person was so happy and told me I had a better day than them.

Cool post. I’ve yet to get a limit.. my PB is close to 20. Average number of fish really depends on time of year for me personally.

Summertime, it’s so hot I don’t give them more than a few hours and am happy to come home with 6+ keepers. Spring and Fall seem to be most productive for me because I can spend a half day on the water without melting. I consider a great day 12+ keepers. Sometimes I will throw the little ones that barely make 10 inches back because I like a nice filet.

2023 will hopefully be the year I get my first limit.

numbers of crappie depend on my location of choice in many cases , I really don't ketch lot's of giant crappie , fish over 14 inches are not common in the spots I visit .
If I were east of dfw and chased them with electronics and a boat my average fish size would go up tremendously is my thoughts , but alas it just ain't so here in this part of the world .
I use my phone camera as a counter and pitch about near 95% or higher of what comes to my hand back in the water . Sometimes I am after a large crappie ,but in most cases I am just after the crappie , lil ones entertain me and so do their mamas and papas , but it just isn't a worry for me about the size of the crappie as much as the speed that they get flung out of said waters .
used to average a really stupid high number of them when I boated frequently in my lil rascal whaler , but not so much these days (my lil boston whaler got retired in gladiator fashion a few years ago ), last monthly count I ran a few months ago was under 500 fish if I remember right , but I also go a lot more often than the average angler.
my concern though has never been total fish or size of fish ,it is just about the bite for me , I wanna get bit ! it's just that simple and yet complex at the same time ......:Rofl
on a side note: orange is a great color I love to use at times , so don't go and get worried about me funning around about anything in the pursuit of said fisheez , I don't take the banter or give it out with any malice in my heart :cheers2

I use 2D sonar with A-Scope or RTS Sonar turned on up front and Sidescan on the console. A Panoptix transducer is used at times but most of the time it is turned off. Old School Fishing. I catch north of 50 Crappie most trips but 6-9in fish are common catches every trip. I keep 10in to 10.5in fish and up depending how much I move for 25-40 in the cooler for 4-6 hours of Single Pole fishing in deep cover. I'm fishing out of a 14-48 Southfork aluminum boat, flat bottom, most of the time so I can testify 14ft boats work just fine fishing. Keeping count is always a problem for me but I've learned to live with it. As room for more ice on top in my cooler wanes I quit as I like to clean my fish the next day.

I really had to think about it and then like alight bulb........I can say the same! Yep under 500 last month for me also, and the month before, the month before that and even the months for all years and decades before, yep all under 500. I was thinking under 700 sounds better though. :dono

Personally, I don’t worry about numbers or size. I’ve got nothing to prove. I’ve caught 100s in one day, I’ve caught 0. To me it’s about getting on the water and enjoying nature and fooling a fish with a jig and not thinking of life’s problems.

@DrNip I LOVE YOUR COMMENT. Why??:confused: Because its based on the NORMAL EXPERIENCE that more people don't post, show, write about, or comment. Think it about it.:scratchhead How easy is it to think about the fish caught if all of the post, reviews, videos, pics, comments are only people who are slaying the fish with big numbers? It warps reality.:( However, hearing more from people like you gives us other perspectives & takes that fisherman that fish below your catch ratio possibly more verbal with their experiences & making you fell less like you failed or had a bad day when you compare your day to the realistic day of average people. Then the chain reaction starts.:popcorn The guy who caught less than you isn't embarrassed but is more eager & learns, you feel better about what you know & build on it. All of these experiences radiate positive trips through us to our peers & from there MORE PEOPLE ENJOY FISHING! With the rate it's going & how people all think Everyone is catching 15-25-35-50 fish per trip we are moving away from the reality of how many people are catching fish is all I'm saying. I took off last week as well & from Sunday 10-15-23 - Sunday 10-22-23 I caught over 200 on 4 different lakes. That may sound like a lot & is good but I know people who fish Crappie Trails & Tournaments that catch 25 Crappie in 45 minutes to an hour who casually catch 200 in 2-3 days!!! Fishing/The Outdoors is good rebalancing for the soul. PASS IT ON!:ThumbsUp

You don't realize people at the top draw from people below them, as well as people on the rise draw from people further along than them. I know people that have fished for 10 years that have never by themselves caught 20 Crappie on 1 trip. Yea with other people and people putting them on fish they have but by themselves????? NOPE! I totally agree the time of year as well as time you were out fishing has a bunch to do with it also. Meeee??? I don't care it's 110 degrees outside when I go Fishing or Golfing. I'm gone for the day! If I get hot I jump in the lake and get out. I'm on the water ALL DAY! It soothes me! My problems hit me when I dock Landside.:Rofl 12 Keepers is my number also when I go to a lake that I have not been or a part of a lake I've never been to & I'm scouting just learning the lake. Any double digit amount is over 20 Filets which is a good day. @Rojoguio... NIIIIICCCCCCEEEEEEEE I see you are slanging slabs!! I remember those RTS days and that was our Live Sonar and still is for a lot of people. I use sit and anticipate that red blob coming from the bottom 100's of times... Great Times. You Sir are no stranger to getting your fair amount & can take 1-10 trips with lesser yields because you know how to fish. :ThumbsUp 25-40 in 4-6 hours single pole fishing are above average #'s & with you doing it without Forward Facing Technology you are cemented in us trying to get Slab to change your position to 2nd Star General :Rofl PROMOTION TIME!!! :biggrin Thanks for sharing your experience. Our health limits our fishing time lately but when we do get fortunate enough to go we usually get 10 or so up here in the Buckeye. Can’t speak to 4 times a month cause it just doesn’t happen…:banghead

@Greenline I get it & understand that 100%.:ThumbsUp I can truly respect that & there are plenty of times I just want to get on the water to say bye to the land lover circumstances. However, with all respect I addressed that in the beginning. I embrace every comment because I want to interact but this post doesn't particularly line up with a person of your skills.:biggrin You see a person that catches fish or does anything above average can handle X amount of less lack luster times over & over because they understand you have ups and downs. However, if you went fishing 100 times & spent thousands on fishing gear & never caught a fish you wouldn't be singing the same tune, you'd be switching past times or just convert to boating vs fishing. :fingerdance:Rofl

The people I'm really leaning toward here are that majority of fisherman that don't share their experiences, don't really catch fish, but spend a lot of time watching, reading, viewing videos of people that are nailing fish getting trapped in the mindset that way more people are better than the talent they possess. When they take in consideration most of those people are Guides, Pro's, Semi-Pro's, Retired where they do this 5 times a week, or Video Content makers for money they doubt their own potential not realizing the average person is right there at the same 8-14 fish per outing also. That's all I'm saying.:twocents

If I watched bowling videos & I see only videos of people bowling 210+ when 300 is a perfect game while I bowl 140-165 I would think I just stink:help. When in reality a rookie bowler isn't bowling 100 per game. You just won't know that if the people who bowl lower scores won't speak up. :ThumbsUp Some may say I just bowl to bowl, some may want to be better, some may be extremely competitive. If there is no communication we don't know who really wants to what. I hope this post just opens up some of the lesser experienced people who love our past-time of fishing to share & chat it up more on this fabulous free site that I just discovered 9-20-23.:woohoo ALL THE WHILE REALIZING THE AVERAGE PERSON FISHING ISN'T EVEN A FISHERMAN, NOR ARE THEY CATCHING 20+ FISH PER OUTING WITH OR WITH FORWARD FACING TECHNOLOGY.:biggrin

@Buckeye I can understand that as well as understand with that type of situation you are really considering it a blessing to be able to fish at all. So even when you don't produce fish, you have the money to buy produce at that market so you enjoy the time you were able to contribute to the great outdoors. Other times of the year, I struggle to find them a lot of times and my average drops dramatically. Got skunked last time I went.

Ketchn' is my crappie hero. I will probably be able to match his numbers, but it's fun trying.

It warps reality.:( However, hearing more from people like you gives us other perspectives & takes that fisherman that fish below your catch ratio possibly more verbal with their experiences & making you fell less like you failed or had a bad day when you compare your day to the realistic day of average people. Then the chain reaction starts.:popcorn The guy who caught less than you isn't embarrassed but is more eager & learns, you feel better about what you know & build on it. All of these experiences radiate positive trips through us to our peers & from there MORE PEOPLE ENJOY FISHING! With the rate it's going & how people all think Everyone is catching 15-25-35-50 fish per trip we are moving away from the reality of how many people are catching fish is all I'm saying. I took off last week as well & from Sunday 10-15-23 - Sunday 10-22-23 I caught over 200 on 4 different lakes. That may sound like a lot & is good but I know people who fish Crappie Trails & Tournaments that catch 25 Crappie in 45 minutes to an hour who casually catch 200 in 2-3 days!!! Fishing/The Outdoors is good rebalancing for the soul. PASS IT ON!:ThumbsUp

With that last welding project leaving Buckeye I plan on this Fall's fishing being 4 times a week. The limiting factor here is the Saltwater intrusion is so bad we all are fishing 10% of the water we normally fish. Getting crowded on the Pearl these days.

@Rojoguio Ole Kiln Ms. is close to Ole Biloxi. I'm originally from Jackson Ms. & spent time on Keesler Airforce Base with my brother where we would wear out the Sheepshead & Specs in brackish water. So I get it! We would fish a Bay 1 week & catch fresh water, then come back & it be a whole different Species where you needed a steel leader because the fish ate 20lb test like taffy. :biggrin :banghead You have a real challenge in that situation when rain & seasons changeWhite Flag Icon Best to ya. :ThumbsUp

Great post Terry. I need to stop looking at YouTube crappie videos where every outing is a 2 hr. limit out. At my age, I also need to enjoy more about being on the water than catching everything in the lake. Slow down and smell the roses folks.:fish

Numbers and size depends on lake. I used to think a good trip was 50 to 100. But seldom went without keeping a limit. Starting to see both numbers and size dropping on lakes I fish most. Covid has had so many on the water, baby boomers retiring , social media and electronics are putting a strain on fish populations on some lakes ;
