I'm constantly catching raccoons, possums, cats, etc in this trap. While reading posts on Crappie.com this morning my wife comes in to tell me I have 2 coons in the trap. A first.
If I didn't trap constantly we would have no fruit production, especially Persimmons.
I'm thinking we will run into this problem with critters in the coming years. I already have traps.
Nothing but trouble, no matter how cute they look.

If you want to catch the whole family look at Dukes Dog Proof traps. I bought mine at Scheels. I have 6. Look on Youtube. I catch them to help the ground nesters out.

Coon hash for supper!
Its so hot nobody wants them. Well I'm 3 for 2 right now, 3 coons in 2 nights. The Trap is set tonight, we will see.
I like watching them and like most folks I think they’re cute, but they can sure be destructive and they know no friends. They’re your friend today and eating your wiring tomorrow.
Well my average slid last night. Now I'm just 3 for 3. The coons pulled the foot petal up and ate the food so I came up with a creative baiting idea. I placed a eye-tie wrap around a ear of corn and secured it where they will need to stand to rangle free. We will report tomorrow. The Great Coon Caper!

Very good. I do the same with fish heads….
I been having the same issue but with possums. I think I have them cleaned out now but for awhile I was catching one every two days and this went on for a week and a half. I use a can of cat food for bait. From previous experience those racoons are much smarter than possums.
Possums like fresh apples and carrots too!!!
coons are tricky critters , them hands are like mini human hands with claws , they can work them traps over really well .....
we try to trap them often and are about 50 50 on our ketch rates , one thing for sure , they will flat out bend up the inside of them there box traps with a vengeance , the last one did a number on the inside and even bent up the door as well , keep your fingers and such clear of them for sure too , and NEVER let one get on ya ....

The raccoons won last nights battle, this one knows to lift the foot petal before heading to the food. I am going to screw a small block to the side of the trap preventing them from pulling the pedal up. I need to win the war here.
I usually staked the trap down so they couldn't roll it or flex it. Also, set it so they couldn't approach from rear of trap. Quit trapping possums when I learned they eat ticks.

Well in the Coon catching saga we left with our Ego stinging as the Raccoon is smart enough to lift the Trip Pedal 3 nights in a row in the Live Trap. So here is my solution to that.

The pedal is set so tight it may go off when the Raccoon enters. No way the Pedal is moving backwards as it is sitting right against the bolt now. The battles continue, evolution of Mankind may be at stake. :Rofl

Man for us it’s the armadillo’s, I’m absolutely exhausted trying to stop them!
We just got a Armo' digging in the yard about the same time this Coon showed up. Please, what did you bait your trap with?
The last time I had to relocate one, I used peanut butter smooshed into a little plastic box, said box wired down tight into the live trap. He was actually coming in to my place of work through a vent, and raiding my snacks on my toolbox [emoji23]Quote:

I have trapped lots of armadillo’s and have used tons of bait’s, unfortunately I haven’t found a bait that works. What I do is get a trap, place in what I think is their path, place a 2x4 angled out creating a funnel for them to bump into and guide them into the trap and hopefully we catch them…..honestly works more often then you’d think.Quote:

They are some of the sneakiest and destructive mean grub grabbin lil critters. Good luck as it seems you’ve come up against the Albert Einstein of the raccoons.
I’ve use sardines and those fake plastic Easter eggs. They love eggs and the sardine smell gets their attention.
I trapped one and it rolled the cage next to my garden hose rack. It chewed holes in my 50 hose at so many spots I had to trash it.
Armo’s won’t come to baits but they can’t resist checking out other armo’s in they area. So the best way to trap them is to get a seasoned trap. That’s a trap that has had another armo inside of it. You can buy seasoned traps or you need to use the 2x4 funnel method to trap one then keep that trap exclusively for armo’s.

Discovery, I had a engineering malfunction. My bolt jammed the pedal, all fixed now along with a coat of peanut butter all over the pedal. Tomorrow will tell who's the smartest.

Congrats on outsmarting him. I now have a skunk in my trap. Trying to figure out how to dispatch him without him spraying the area. My best option I guess is let him die naturally. Stirring him up can only cause longterm stinky trouble.
Man, you've hit on my biggest fear......catching a skunk in the trap. Let me know if you find something that works.
