Absolutely. I’ve switched to egg sinkers and rubber bead stops. This article will help give you the idea. Doesn’t crimp the line line split shot and can slide up and down the line to readjust if need to tie on another jig.

Thanks superdave I read the article, I have tried this technique of fishing before, I just stayed tangled up all the time. Just lowering down my jig to the fish then all I would see is just one bait instead of seeing egg sinker and bait under it, it got so bad that I changed to pitching jigs instead of vertical, may have to change back to vertical. But that 12 foot rod gets very heavy after a while.
There's "tungsten putty" or "SuspendStrips" (lead tape).
I had the "putty" stuff a long time ago & it worked OK .... just a bit messy to deal with. I had the SuspendStrips in the "dot" shape (called SuspendDots), and used them on jerkbaits to make them suspend deeper. They come in rectangular shapes, too. Neither one would compromise the integrity of your line, like crimping a lead split shot on will.
If I were using the putty stuff, I'd form it like a trolling sinker (torpedo shape), so it'd show up "big" on the Livescope. If I were using the SuspendStrips, I'd roll them around the line to make them show up, rather than flagging them on the line ... which would make them pretty much disappear on the screen.

SuspendStrips or SuspendDots only weigh 0.01oz each .... so you'd have to use more than just a few to add much weight.
The article was more for the picture of the egg sinker, beads and rubber stops to give you visual. If you are locking the egg sinker on the line in place with the bead and rubber stops it would fish the same as a split shot I would think. Unless you’re casting it hard and slinging the weight down the line. Have you tried just not crimping the split shot so hard on the line?
the egg or bullet weight with rubber bobber stops is pretty much the standard for needing extra weight. Eventually you get the hang of pitching it and not tangling it.
Tangling because using braid? I have the issue but way less with Mono. Also instead of using the beads or bobber stops to hold the weight in place, just go thru the egg sinker twice, normally can still move it or if you don't want to move it go thru it again.
why not just use a 1/8 jighead .....lots less complicated .....
I switched to the egg sinker, bobberstop setup a few weeks ago after fishing with a guide. Since then i've yet to lose a rig. when i get hung up i just pick the sinker up and let it fall until it works the hook free. I really like this rig and I can see it great on my livescope.
Scoping I like it a lot heavier than that . I use 2 - 1/8 oz weights above my 1/16 jig. Get it to the fish quick!Quote:
