Three generation crappie fishing adventure
My son and his family are up from Louisiana for the week and my grandson, Brantley, said one of the things we had to do was go fishing in Pawpaw's boat. we got him up early on Monday morning and were on the water by 7:30 trolling jigs. Our goal was to catch 20, enough for dinner on Thursday. The lake I picked is loaded with crappie, the problem is that very few are big enough to keep. Unless you have a 6 year old in the boat, then every one looks big enough. I had Brantley running the clicker keeping track of our fish and reeling in all the crappie we caught. At times we had fish on all 5 rods and he told me he didn't even have time to eat his snacks. That's a terrible problem to have. By noon we had, by his count, 42 fish, mostly 7"-8" with some pushing 10". That's when we stowed the rods and took a couple of high speed laps around the lake. He had some great stories to tell his mama when we got home and said he wanted to go fishing every day they were here. I iced the fish down and we cleaned them this morning. He was a little off with the count, we ended up with 49 and have a gallon bag of fillets to show for our day on the water. Fishing is good fun but fishing with a kid is so much better.
