Road Runners
Charlie Brewers
Crappie Magnets
Pico Crankbaits
Bobby Garlands
Mr. Crappie baits
Did a little trolling with Road Runner and Charlie Brewer on it today. Works good. Just used the rod I had and held in my hand. No special setup
what are some good colors on those
I agree with SuperDave but I don’t have Pico nor Mr crappie baits. I do have bandit 300s and bombers (just what I already had before join website).
I don’t run braid so [emoji2369]
I don’t have trolling specific rods. I have some bass pro and couple other spinning reel rods. That work fine. I troll year round with occasionally dock shoot.

Flicker Shad 7 is another crank bait you might want to try. I’ve had some luck trolling them this Summer.

What is a good size line
12 lb fluorocarbon direct to a number 12 snap swivel is what I use pulling cranks.
Hopefully someone who knows a lot more than me will chime in and give you a better answer on line size than me. I am using 9 lb braid but that’s because someone else suggested it to me. Our lake has a LOT of sunken timber and I’ve lit a could of crank baits to them. But OTOH, I don’t know that I would have gotten them back if I had been fishing 20 lb. What do some of you who know more about it than me. GF
Put about 70-100 hours a year on my kicker trolling, for fish...crappie,walleye mostly. Troll everything from cranks, spinners, spoons, over spin, under spins, lindy rigs, bottom bouncers, dipsy divers pretty much anything you can cast and reel in you can troll, I've got counter reels, baitcast reels, and spinning reels use them all trolling on and off, just put it in the water and go trolling, after a while you'll figure out what works for you.
I've trolled jigs and cranks mostly and started with what I had til I figured out what worked for me. I’ve whittled it down to enough rod holders for twelve rods and seldom run more than eight. Trolling jigs I used hi vis eight mono and cranks I used that and power pro 10/2 yellow tied to a duo lock snap. If you want to get some hung cranks back you might change to a lighter hook. That and braid helped me get some of mine back. Never had a crappie straighten any of my hooks but some large whisker trout did.
12 lb fluorocarbon direct to a number 12 snap swivel is what I use pulling cranks. I also recommend a guided trip with MRDux (member) who pulls and pushe cranks this time of year. His business is here Home | crappie-gills-n-more.
It’s money well spent as Doug has a wealth of knowledge and will teach you while you fish. Great guy to learn from. He taught me the basics.
Mike Baker has a good video on YouTube as well.

I pull crankbaits with my walleye setups, which are size 15 line counters with 10lb power pro braid to a 10' 10lb fluoro leader.
I troll longline jigs with 6lb crappie maxx mono.

I would recommend checking out mike bakers trolling videos on YouTube. He will have you setup. Start off simple and keep learning and adjusting. You don’t have to be fully setup and a pro on your first trip.
thanks
we long line troll with 1/32 ounce and 1/16 ounce jig-heads with curly tails/soft plastic on it. Sometimes add a split shot. Usually troll .5 to 1.2 somewhere in there. We use the back of the boat and fish 6 rods at a time. If action gets hot we go to 4 rods. Cast the jig out a good ways, then let even a little more line out.
Crankbaits, we troll faster up to 2.0 and usually only use 4 rods or even 2
from experience I know that a good long cast with a crankbait is about 100 feet of line out
Troll where you can, meaning if the main channel is wakey at all, go find a cove that nobody is in. If you can get on the main channel when it's calm (early and late), it can be good too. There's no wrong way
buy you a few colors like chartreuse, black, orange, and pink , or combinations. See what works
On one lake I fish I'll use 4lb. mono (a real good fish here is 2 lb.s). On the other lake I'll use 6lb mono (crappie are a little bigger)
I also troll with braid (10lb power pro) but for me , it's a little harder to see
good luck
I use 10 lb .fluorescence mono line so I can see where the lines are. Any decent 7-8 ft medium action rod will work. Some use longer rods to keep line a little further apart. Use assortment of different depth running crankbaits. Find the fish and the depth they are at and then put the correct cranks on. Color varies day to day. Water clarity, sunny or overcast skies. I pull 4 off the rear of my boat. Need decent rod holders. Usually troll from 1.5 to 1.8 mph. 60 to 100 ftof line out depending on how deep I am needing to go. There are some apps out there that will tell you how many feet of line for the depth you want. I don’t really use them . I just put different amount of line out and colors of cranks till I get dialed in on what they want. Line type and size will effect how deep the cranks will go plus speed of trolling. I went this past Wednesday. All fish were 15-20 ft deep. So with that info you want to be a just above the 15 ft mark. We caught around 50or so. Only kept about 18. Hope That helps. Good luck
