Thinking about going out but don’t know if I want to deal with the craziness on the water. Or just stay home and restring reels etc

Be careful if you go out. Head on a swivel for sure.
I'm not,but I'll go to the ramp and watch all the action. Lol
I’ll pass. :Rofl
boating or fishing?
Nope! not gonna! USA FLAG
I've put this on here before, but it's been a while. When my mother was born in 1943, she had four older brothers who were enlisted in the service. Three of them saw combat. One, my Uncle Bick, saw terrible combat while he was stationed at Bougainville in the Philippines. He came back with several medals and told stories of how he was lucky to have come home. He always enjoyed life as long as I knew him......I didn't come along until 1969.
Anyway, to the point. For years throughout the 70's - 90's, pretty much as long as I can remember, we've had a big get-together every Memorial Day weekend at the lake for some good visiting, good eating, good fishing, & good fun. I remember the family renting 3 or 4 cabins on the lake and cousins running & riding bikes everywhere while the men fished & ladies visited or cooked. Then in the evenings and at night would come the big Rook Bird Tournament. Mom & I won it one year.......the whole big thing! Believe me when I say that beating that bunch at a 3-night Rook Bird Tournament was quite an accomplishment. My uncles always tried to do some cheating....."isn't the grass GREEN outside" or "I was using a YELLOW crappie jig today." You had to watch them Stratton Uncles. My wife (girlfriend at the time) won the biggest fish trophy for 1990. She caught a 3 lb. catfish on a cricket. She's still got it on a shelf at home. Big Fun!
The cabins, and all of my uncles & aunts are gone now and my mother is too. My dad is 81 and won't go anymore; I suspect because he's the last of that generation and it's not happy times anymore for him. Several of my cousins are gone too. Last year, there were only 4 of us who went and camped for the weekend. This year, it's down to just me and my cousin Randy. Just the two of us. He's 65 and I'm 53. We gonna grill & chill, he says. We're gonna remember the good times, tell stories, fish a little, grill a little, drink a little, and probably cry a little. We might even play a little dummy-hand Rook Bird, just for old times. Here's Ole Cousin Randy & me from a couple of Spring Breaks ago. He & I always manage to have a good time.

Yall be safe, enjoy the weekend, and remember/think of a veteran and how their sacrifices in the past make it possible for us to do the things that we do here in America.
Thanks for sharing the story. Good catch you had that year, hope it's good this one as well. :cheers2
i plan to stay home and do some grilling. Be safe if you go to the lake. It will be crowded.
Lets remember to take time this weekend to thank those who served. USA FLAG
Going Friday, Saturday, maybe Sunday, definitely Monday, maybe Tuesday.
I’m hoping to avoid the craziness by going to one of two electric only lakes near me. Hoping the parking at the boat ramp isn’t too bad, because I’m sure others have the same plan. But at least the worst electric-only propulsion boats can do to each other is a minor scuff.
You all be safe out there!!!
All the best,
Glenn
Go early be off before noon. Be safe it will crazy !!!

Friday & Sunday night i'll be fishing.
Memorial Day weekend, especially Sunday, is the worst weekend of the whole year on Ky and Barkley Lakes. Too many lake lice and drunks for me to be out there any more. I’ll be on the trailer Saturday afternoon until Tuesday morning.

Going out, there so many lakes around here if you pick a small one there only be a couple of boats, the big ones won't be to bad either...water temp is in the low to mid 60s yet,and it's suppose to be, windy the next 4 daysAttachment 459566
I typically fish 25hp and under lakes and I still try to avoid them on holiday weekends. It's just not as relaxing to me when the lake is covered up and then add in the extra annoyances resulting from it like backed up boat ramps and people not knowing how to park their trailers. If I really have a hankering for fishing, I'll try to go somewhere remote and wade or bank fish or take my jon boat to creek fish. Can still get crowded in the creeks but at least there are no watersports to deal with lol.
Not a chance. I hand the lake over to the recreation navy on holiday weekends and give it until mid-week to calm back down. This weekend should be good people watching at the ramp with a lawn chair and a six pack.
Rain forecasted for Sat. and Sunday. Everybody will be out on Monday- except me. Staying away from the Herd! nonono
We’ll I decided to fish today since majority of everyone is working today. My work gave me a family day. Great weather a little windy but better than sitting indoors at my work. This weekend I’ll just relax at home or least not on the water. If we want entertainment we’ll just sit at the boat ramp and watch others lol
First one off the bat!

Ive fished ALOT of the Memorial weekends AND the July 4th weekends and caught ALOT of fish during those weekends. Trick is get up and go early before all the campers/pleasure boaters get started. Yolu'll pretty much have the water to yourself up to @ 10AM.;) If the wind wasnt gonna be blowing 15 mph tomorrow I'd be there. I fished Thursday and practically had the lake to myself.
My dad called memorial weekend " first summer drunk " . Got hit head on at Grenada scenic loop in 1980 . Second curve from the green door headed to the Dam . Back in the day those "joints " on the north side of the dam stayed open longer than the ones on the south side . 16 year old that was 2.6 leaving the beach put my dad through the windshield and both of us in the hospital for a week . Will fish behind the house , Sardis next Tuesday . lol the drunks will be trying to get money to pay fines . lol
I think I'll get my fishing gear straightened up and clean my turkey guns this weekend and fish middle of next week after things calm down at the lake a bit.
