Check out Ty Pig Patrol YouTube channel. He has made several trips out there and has caught some monster fish.

That's a monster !

Havasu is my guess also. Ty Pig Patrol does get some large ones, some gross looking monster gills too. That’s a big cracker, for sure.

Certainly a monster

Truly a giant. My question is this; even though I’m inclined to release such a fish would it be any good as table fare? I’m thinking that the smaller, firmer ones would eat better.

I’m thinking you are correct. But we caught some back in the eighties and nineties from the canals mussel beds around the Santee Cooper and Lake Marion areas that were huge and they tasted very well. I would think the cooler water may have kept the meat firmer. We made several trips over there for big catfish before the crappie started bedding here in middle Georgia.

Attachment 456938Here is my Redear that I caught in May of 2015 at Havasu. 17" with a girth of 18". It weighed 4-09. Caught several 2-3 lbers during that two day trip. That big ear certainly brings back some great memories.

They each ketched one monster apiece, both fish came in at the exact same weight 2 lbs 12 oz.
I guessed 3 ish when I saw it , man are them BIG

We were fishing in Sonny's friend Keith's boat. Caught the Redear on a live crayfish and had a replica mount made.
