Just wondering how my old lake is doing these days,,,, fishing a few years ago was crazy good this time of year,,,, let’s see some stringers boys….
I fished the gravel pit and the area behind Bayou Point ramp in my kayak last week before the rain hit. Use 12 different colors of grubs, did about the same on all. Caught 45 shorts no keepers. Largest was 11 7/8".
Wow cane,,,, not a very good day,,,, the gravel pit usually does well for me,,, seems they should be spawning along the dam by now
Getting old, paddling wears me not and the seat height gets to my legs.
Waiting on registration to return so I can mount a motor. Got the seat raised a bit. Waiting on parts to be delivered.
I tried to fish it yesterday, my mistake then had to clean them for a friend Attachment 458178

Nice mess
Ought to be some good catches since they are reducing the lake as fast as they can with the flash flood warning. 4,378 cfs is about the highest discharge I've seen.
Your right cane it could be good for the fisherman and bad for the fish. Because this drawdown will bring the fish out of the Ironwood and they’re in a feeding frenzy after the Spond. but more important the dam needs to be taken care of.

Reading this alert, it’s saying that it may take 2 to 3 years to repair the damage is that also saying or does that mean that they will keep the lake at 210 ft or thereabouts for that length of time?

Good question.
First an inspection to see what's wrong. Might be able to do repairs in layers and raise lake level as they go. It's 80 years old and might need lots of repairs.
Has anyone heard whether or not recreation (crappie fishing:) will be stopped due to the problems with the dam? I understand lowering the water level will decrease the danger of a breach but will the ramps remain open? And which ramps will be an option at 210?
We went on the lake in kayaks and there lots of boats today. Haven't heard anything about shutting it down. At 210 ft there will be 2 ramps to use, Patton on the north end and Bayou Point on the south end of the dam. At 210 Patton will give problems to boats over 14 ft long.
Dub Patton Day-Use Area: 211.0
Hernando Point Day-Use Area: 215.0
Bayou Point: 209.0
Kelley's Crossing: 211.0
Pleasant Hill: 215.0
Coldwater Point:: 220.0
You can't get near the outlet tunnel/channel. Pratt Rd is blocked off by the air field. The low road at the north and south ends of the dam are blocked off. I guess the closest you can get to it is driving atop the dam. With these conditions I won't be crossing.
Thanks canebreaker, great info. Looks like they are pulling it down fast!

I've been out of it since 6/4, ATT modem wasn't working. I had a service appointment set up then they changed it due to a damage in the system. Found out where the problem was. A neighbor about 1 1/2 blocks away was digging a flowerbed against their rear fence. Cut both ATT and Comcast lines, blew a hole in their shovel when they hit the power line.

Well that’s one way to fish Butla,, or get some garden fertilizer,,
Won't need any fertilize. That lakebed grass will be tall and thick soon. Stink wherever the water covers it.
I'm thinking the problem must have been more serious than first thought with them completely draining the lake. I feel for those who may be susceptible to flooding downstream until the problem is corrected. If it takes years to repair the new growth will be great for new fry when the lake is filled again. Should be a great fishery again in 10 years. Sad day

I saw some phots and videos from the dam on facebook. PM me if you want to see them. I won't post a link here.
Sad day
My son sent me a link from a group he's in. Shows people picking fish up at Hernando Point and Hwy 51 Landing. Get them before they stop moving.
I saw a video this morning on a face book group. I think it was taken at Prichard bridge. Lots of dead fish floating down stream.
Local rains has the level going up and down.
Flood warning is off until the level gets back to 210 ft.
