Have been working on a base for my vise. Its made from a tropical wood here on the island called Blue Mahoe. Very unusal wood. It's blue with cream spwood. Very hard. Got more to do but it's getting there.

Nice work
I like the wood , tell us more about the wood and proses
Be careful. A lot of tropical woods can have toxic or irritating resins and dust. That wood look great as a veneer on the back of a longbow!
Very pretty wood and project. Looking forward to seeing it completed. :highfive
That is going to be a beautiful vise base.
Man that be sweet on my Norvise,,,lol….very nice!
Very nice!
I likes that! :ThumbsUp
Thanks everyone. I'm limited on tools here but I have my router. Was able to cut out a pattern with a copping saw and routed out the trays. I'll post more pics as it comes along. Have to sand it by hand. The wood is crazy beautiful. Made one out of mahogany too but don't know if I can bring it back to the states...its banned in the US. Made some wood dowels to put thread spools on. Drilled a hole in some steel and cut the woods as close as possable and then tappered the ends to start in the hole ...then tapered the other end and put in the drill and pushed it through as I spun it....it worked. Woohoo...blue mahue dowels. Going to put them on the first ledge to hold spools. By the way this may seem backwards for most people but I'm left handed...so my vise is on the right = facing left.

That’s a shame about the mahogany but the one you’re working on is beautiful!

Good looking work. Does stink about the mahogany
I think you may have a market here, sounds promising...:cheers2
Was able to work on it today. I made the back tray pivot on an 1/2" stainless steel rod. I don't like the way some benches have arms. I want to be able to put them where I want. Got a lot more sanding and routering. Think I'll rout out a pocket in each of the trays, then drill holes from tools. Was a real challange because I don't have a drill press here on the island. Was crazy trying to get the strait and even. Got some 3/16 stainless steel rods to put spool holders on the lower edge.
