Is a ram mount safe to put on your console with a 10 inch garmin attached to it, just seems like to me that’s it stable but not sure if it’s stable enough. Finally got my livescope straight and my console garmin 106 ultra sideview as well. Anybody got a 10 inch screen on their plastic console.
What about a ram swing arm mount beside the console instead of in dash?

I have a HDS 9" Lowrance mounted with a 6" ram mount on the fiberglass console of XP7 Xpress. Never have had a problem. Not a 10" but plenty heavy.
I use the bigger 2" ball ram mount for my 102sv and it even has a 8" extension riser. It seems to hold fine for me. Just make sure it's tight. I lower it when traveling with the cover only because the cover was made way before I had it and will not fit raised.
I also have one on the console which holds a 12" old Bird just fine. It's a heavy one it's a model 1198si.Quote:

its sized right that mount is from 10 to 12 inch size unit, I just thinking about going down the road, the unit is going to shake a little and the only thing holding it together is the plastic in the console. It’s a pretty big 2 inch ball type mount. Pretty heavy duty.Quote:

I take my large units off when traveling down the road! I don’t want to stop for something and come back to find it gone!
I also have a Ram swing arm mount, mounted to my Tracker console.
My 1222 rides on it when I put my livescope in the water. I did it this way so my buddy can see the screen as well from the back of the boat.

I have a 1" RAM mount on my consol with a 9" garmin. Never had any issues. It's plenty stable.
My Excel has a regular D sized ram mount with a 10 inch Helix on it and it stays solid.

I dont know how easy Garmins are to remove for the road trip. I have a HB 9" graph that rides in the truck seat beside me and is stored in the house between trips. It's mounted on a 2" ball ram mount and doesnt move a bit when I tighten it down where I want it to be.
On second thought....mine could be a 2 & 1/4" ball. Size D.
When I am traveling long distances I take my graphs off. I am planning on ordering some locks for my graphs though but will still take em off for the highway
I had ram mounts bow and console. Had big time problems with both. Cornfield crappie mounts solved my problem.Quote:

Garmins are very easy to remove. At least the newer ones. They have a cradle and the just pop in and out. Wiring stays connected to the cradle. My graphs NEVER travel down the road on the boat.Quote:

I have a Lowrance Elite 7 unit mounted right on the floor of my boat for a map unit while fishing. I wish it was 6 inches or so higher. I really didn't want to spend the money for a Ram mount just for this. While in WalMart yesterday, I saw their version of a Ram mount for only 19.99! Granted it's not made of aluminum, but it looked like it tightened up well. I wouldn't trust it for a bigger unit, especially on the console, but for this little unit in the floor I think I'll try one. Pics to come later.

I'm using a short arm ram mount for 2 Garmin 10” units. So far, so good. I’m not running a 70 mph glass boat but it hasn’t Been a problem.

Here you go Les. I went to WalMart and picked up this 6" mount for 20 bucks. It does have an aluminum base. Didn't get long enough bolts to attach my 7" Lowrance Elite so no install pic.Quote:
