I am looking to buy a 6'9", ultra light, St Croix, Panfish Series Spinning rod. What size reel would be the best fit for this rod? I have been using Pflueger reels on my other rods. Also, should I use braid or mono line for 1/16 and 1/8 ounce jigs?

I like the BnM Pro 50 for small rods like that. Pflueger President 20 or 25 would work nicely as well. I would use fluorocarbon line myself but mono will work fine.
:hesaid
I use a 25 president on my 6'9 ul panfish. Very well balanced imo

Whatever size reel you put on it, make sure it balances the rod. Put the outfit on your outstretched finger at the front end of the rod's handle ... if it balances or slowly dips towards the handle end of the rod, you're good to go. If it dips towards the tip end of the rod "slowly" that's not too bad, but if it dips quickly that's not good & you'd need a slightly heavier reel.
As mentioned a 50, 20 or 1000 series reel is likely gonna match up well with the rod, but I'd try one of the reels you already have on another rod to see how well a reel of that size/weight balances the outfit. That way if you need a lighter or heavier reel you can find out the weight of that particular reel & then search other reels for a lighter/heavier reel.
I'd use 4# to 6# test mono ... your choice in brand/color.
Just my :twocents opinion.
I use 1000 size on mine

Diawa legalis 2500. Awesome and smooth to the touch
I use size 2000/2500 for almost everything, I just use different line on them for different species /techniques
not a fan of 500/1000 or Pfleuger 20 sized reels. I like the 2000 sized or Pfleuger 25 sized. Slightly larger spools without being too big for the purpose. Line capacity isn't an issue, I just like the larger diameter, and sometimes taller spools because the line comes off more easily, and if you're using a line with a little memory like mono, or in my case fluoro can have, larger spools are a bit friendlier. I'm new to using fluoro as a main line, and so far, I've learned what gets you by as a leader may be absolute junk for mainline.
Pflueger 6925 .
I use 1000.. I tried the smaller ones but had a hard time with the line pulling off in a wad after a short time on the spool. Good luck, should be great ...
I've had one Pfluger and it was a really nice reel. Don't find them around here of I'd have got another. I've also got a Schmino 2000 on a 6' Schmino rod. It's the only rod I have that pass's the balance test above. My favorite UL is an Okuma Ignite reel on a 5' Okuma UL rod. Cast 1/32 igs with it. I have 2# test SOS mono line on it. Don't recall ust what I paid for either right off but pretty sure it was under $40.
I have the 5’4” panfish rod and have Vanford 500 reel. I would try van ford 1000 on longer rod. It’s light but expensive
I have 7 foot st croix panfish med lite with daiwa regal 1000 not as good as above set up
The Pflueger Supreme XT is an absolute work of art. With the magnesium frame it's light enough you could probably go up a size.

My Son has always liked the full sized spinning reels but I personally like the middle sized, 2500 series reels. As far as line, I keep trying 10 lb test braid but always go back to my Trilene XL 6lb.
Braid is the devil
