Stardust painted jigs

I got 9 colors and started painting some test heads to get the kinks out and figure out the best way to do it. Heat the first head with my trusty Bic lighter and tried a 3 color combo. When i went to reheat head with lighter it burnt the bottom paint so now I use my butane torch for the final melting. I baked the first 18 in the oven thinking it might smooth out texture even more and it did but heads were duller so no baking required. Brushes I use don't hold much of the stardust so have to dip brush a few times to get enough paint where I want it. Definitely has a learning curve. Second jig I tried clearing the hook eye while head was warm and peeled the whole jig off so you do need to dip heads in water to cool them down. Mixed a couple colors and really like those. Mixed white/stone camo/ glow white together and really like how it turned out. They actually glow brighter than Pro tec. Second batch was some 3/32 walleye heads, these turned out nice. It is a slower process, I can paint 5 or 6 jigs of my paints to 1 of these but overall like the results.Attachment 449607Attachment 449608Attachment 449609Attachment 449610

Thanks everyone, plan on painting more the next couple of days. Once I have enough I plan on testing the durability and take a hammer to a couple. Cleaning the eyes out have been time consuming. What works best for me is after jigs are finished I take my half hitch tool and heat it for five seconds or so and push it through the eye and turn it a few times. I think the rubber inside the eye will protect line better and maybe help with line slippage.

I agree and think it also helps seal those eye gaps that sometimes the line slips through. Once again, beautiful work Jim.

Keep the shrink tube on until your done dipping, a slight reheat around tubing will release it around the hook eye…I use 1/32 shrink tubing and cut it into 1/2” long pieces,,, use both sides of it to maximize your tubing,,,,

Problem is with all the jigs he does is they are so dang pretty I hate to use them for fear of losing. Might just put a bunch in a shadowbox on my mantel.
