Going to give it a shot on the hill tonight. How’s water clarity if anyone’s been on the upper end. If anyone is in the belton area and wants to fish sometime let me know. I’ll report how tonight goes sometime tomorrow.

I never liked stalks in stained water but if youre fishing the upper end of CH I dont think you have much choice. Do you know which creek youre planning on fishing? I think PC and NF you'll find the water to your liking. Looking forwards to seeing youre results. Good luck.:)
As usual I come up with a plan and something changes it. Right before leaving my daughter came to me and said she wanted to go. I’m not going to turn down that opportunity, so I loaded up a pillow, sleeping bag, heater, and snacks. Didn’t take long before the big dreaded question came up “ how much further”. I made a detour over to upper Russel and fished there instead. Launched the boat and she wants me to take her over to look at a sandy area for rocks and everything but fishing. Eventually made it to a pinch point in the creek to set up. Didn’t do much fishing but we did catch 4 good size crappie before calling it a night at 8:00. It was a wonderful trip and caught a bunch of memories but not many fish.
Sometimes making memories is far better than catching fish
Those memories are priceless! Thank you for sharing them with us

Priceless and worth it. Thanks for sharing
The best trip I have read of in a long time! Congrats
Your trip was worth ALOT more than going to the hill just to catch fish. Congrats to you and your daughter on time well spent together.:)
You'll have to give it a few days if you want to fish the upper end now. Alot of water has been introduced..... :dono
USGS Broad River near Bell shows the gauge has risen over 5 feet in the past 3 days.

Thjis has GOTTA be a fluke! I dont see any way the entire lake can rise 6 feet and fall 6 feet in just a couple hours. Especially with just 2" of rain. That high of a rise woulda washed out the entire Broad River camp including most of the lake houses around that area with a rise of aint-no-telling how many feet of water rushing down Broad River to make the lake rise that much that quick! Whatcha think?!?

No doubt that 2" of rain muddied the upper end up again though.......

Good for you for being patient and letting her drive the agenda. That's a huge mistake I made with my daughter. She was enjoying going with me when she was 7, but I took her to Clarks Hill one day and the fishing was a little slow at first and she started asking about going swimming. We had driven an hour and a half in the dark and had bought 4 dozen herring so I wasn't going to stop after an hour and go swimming...huge mistake. We eventually got into the hybrids really good but by then she didn't care. I finally stopped catching them and took her swimming for a couple hours and she was happy again. But she hasn't wanted to go back with just her and me since. She will go if she can bring a friend or two but she could honestly care less about it.
I'm really trying to do better with my son. I have been bringing him along slow and easy. All we have done is go to ponds and catch bream but he is enjoying it and when he is ready to go we leave. He just turned 6. He hates the cold (and the heat) so I'm trying to find a nice afternoon to take him long lining at Greenwood this spring for his first real taste of fishing out of the boat. It's really going to break my heart if he doesn't take to it. I've accumulated so much fishing knowledge I would really like to pass to him and we can do some really great trips together if he ends up being into it. Since he was born I've backed off on doing just stripers and saltwater trips and tried to learn things like catching white perch, bream and crappie consistently so I can start him on some faster action. Fingers crossed for some good trips this spring.
Oh...he'll LOVE fishing as long as you continue making it FUN for him. As he ages just talk to him and let him know that every day fishing doesnt always mean BIG catches. Carry a sleeping bag along for him to lay on, pack him some snacks, and carry along a video game (or something he loves spending some time with). You'll do just fine with him.:)
A sleeping bag and blanket is a great idea. Along with toys, snacks and video game. The biggest thing for me is packing it in if they start wanting to go home or go swimming. It's really hard for me to stop fishing or trying to find fish. Most of the lakes are an hour plus drive and it is hard for me to make that kind of commitment in time and fuel and bail on it...but I have to for the next couple years.
