17" Black Crappie, no scales to weigh
I caught this one out of a private pond and released . Thought I’d hooked a LM on my 5’6” UL .
I didn’t have a scale to weigh it , but I have one 2.25# I had mounted years ago and have caught and weighed a couple that were 2.5# and this one was way bigger .
2 lbs 14 ounces. 16.5 inches long
So far, mine is 2 lbs. 12 oz., I caught it in a tournament and it won big fish. My partner's biggest was 2 lbs. 8 oz. and it took 3rd in big fish. He and I also won for the heaviest 10 fish. We beat second place by over 3 pounds. Took home over $1,200.
Jim
My biggest was just a touch under 15 inches. 1.78 pounds. Caught trollling jigs at Grayson lake in Carter county kentucky

Documented 2.0 lbs with digital scales this season. Seems that’s all I chase now unless someone is with me or the freezers empty.

2 lbs 10 oz caught at Enid Lake MS in 2002 on jig tipped with minnow. Do not have any pics.
Got a 3.28 this fall. What’s most impressive to me is I got it in Pennsylvania. I’ve caught two others over the years at Kentucky lake but this is my personal best.

I have no clue what mine is. Mostly only catch white crappie and I fish in Mississippi. I caught a bunch one summer on 1/2oz spinner baits and I could almost put my hand in their mouth. No scales and didn’t measure. They fought like bass and I was using bass rods. It was fun.
But I’d guess and say around 2lbs+ is my best.

I have been fishing for crappie over 70 years. I've caught some big ones. I do know the biggest one was so big that I had to go buy 12 inch blades for my MR TWISTER before I could fillet it properly.
I have a 2.74 black in dead of winter. My wife has a black that was 17 and 3/4" sow that was ready to pop. We turned it back and never weighed it. Still regret not weighing it.

Mine came in a 10 fish group that is my best to date, wish I’d been in a tournament. Those 10 were all blacks and weighed just a sneeze under 18 lbs. in that group was a 2.2, 2.4, and a 2.6 that’s my PB. I translate that to 2lb 9 1/2oz. All in three hours with no throw backs. I’m still smilin!

This is from quite a few years ago on Kentucky lake. Over 5 1/2 lbs in two fish.
In the late 80s, we’ll before I started doing taxidermy, I caught two huge crappie within 15 minutes of each other on Lake Barkley. One of them I had to nose the boat into the buckbrush and break limbs to get the fish loose. I really didn’t realize how big they were until they we weighed on a certified scale. 3.4 and 3.0. No pics and both were thoroughly enjoyed with fries and hush puppies.

3# 2oz. Slave Canal(Marion) on Santee Cooper in 1972 casting artificials on light tackle. No pics but willing to submit to POLYGRAPH! :check For a fee, I will provide witness information!:highfive
Biggest in my local area is right at 15-3/4". No idea on weight but several that size loaded with eggs over the years. If I ever catch that 16" here at home it's going on the wall but at 60 years old I'm wondering if that day will ever come. :biggrin
Caught at least one over that length of a night on Okeechobee but they went in the box & were filleted without fanfare. LOL
I'm still trying. :kewl

Biggest tournament fish 2.81 in Crappie USA Classic in October, also caught on Barkley.
Some fish from years ago that I didn’t weigh and worry about measuring were beasts
One white out of a duck pond was so big I did make a mark on my arm to measure when I got home
It was right at 18 inches and got set free of course
Another fish or 2 have been in that length range as well .
One off a dock in public lake was a hair over 18 inches too on marks carved in the wood on the dock to measure with.
Got set free as well .
My largest weighed black isn’t much at 2.6 lbs and I didn’t even weigh it , the guy I gave it to did , but it was a small fry compared to the black that missed the net and got free right before it .
But of all of them , the white in my avatar at just under 18 eclipsed them all without any doubt weight wise , never seen a crappie that diameter size before or since . With a girth of 19 inches she was as good as it gets for me …
Never weighed and set free and used fishing line to record her dimensions …
A few others from back when were really large crappie , but back then most just got ate. ….:highfive
2.7lb out of lake Talquin Fl. My goal is to get in the 3lb club
I caught a 3/14 and a 4.01 on the same day in March 1985. Won two walmart contests with them both were 19". Biggest since was 2/15 tw o years ago.
I did not have a scale, but it was 15" long. 1.5 lbs maybe? Here is a friend posing with it. Later we caught a really fat 14" with a pot-belly that probably weighed almost the same. Turns out, that one has surprisingly large and numerous shad in it's belly. What a pig!

For me it is 15.5 inch white crappie that weighted 2.4lbs out of Lake Lavon. Now that I have the time and boat I will be shooting for a 3lber at Lake Fork. I have only seen one crappie over three pounds and it was caught by my dad on a trotline with a gold fish for bait back in 1972. He kept that fish in the freezer for years and bragged about it.

My personal best!
My stepdad told me about a 3.75 out of cedar creek off a trot line from Back when too, was kept really hush hush as you can imagine...:Rofl
A man I work with told me about a 4.25 Mohawk he caught back when on his “favorite” crappie tree at lake Palestine. Said the game wardens bout flipped out when they checked him , said they never seen a crappie that big before...:highfive
I have never weighed one, but my longest white crappie is 16.9" and my longest black crappie is 16.25". Waiting on the elusive 17"er to go on the wall

Caught from Watts Bar Lake in East Tenn back in Spring 2007 (guesstimate length of 16-17") Caught on UL w/4# test. Caught at about 8ft deep next to a dock we were shooting.
My partner, "onready", caught her male courter for the day ... (shown here holding both fish)
