Got My Christmas Present Today...

...and it aint a good one! I just found out the firebox on my gas central heating for the house has burnt out and now I need a whole new unit. And that's just half of it. My AC is 22 years old and the condenser the air runs thru (which is attached to the heating unit underneath the house) has all but rusted thru too. My current (old) AC runs on the old type freon which from my understanding isnt available anymore. Bottom line is if I only replace teh heating unit and later on had to replace the AC unit I'd wind up spending an additional $1400-$1500 instead of replacing everything now. Bummer. Oh! And I didnt even mention that my pickup ,is in the shop for what I THOUGHT was a busted hose and it winds up being a $165 water pump PLUS antifreeze and installation. Geez.........

So.........really I dont have a choice. It's ALL gotta be replaced.:( Well, Ive NEVER spent so much on my Christmas present before but I guess that's why Ive always said that you have to save for a rainy day. Well, today sure was a rainy day for me and I'm not talking about the precipitation I had today either.

OK, enough sad news. Now lets go fishing!:)

Bummer. I hate when unexpected things like that happen. Like you said prepare for the rainy day because it’s just a matter of when not if.

I dropped $300 at the dentist yesterday and was thinking how many B. Garlands that would be. I’m gonna quit whining after hearing your troubles.

HVAC certainly gets expensive in a hurry

Had to redo all of our system years ago. Decided on gas heating and AC unit for cooling. But it’s paid for now and every winter when the heat comes through the vents I’m grateful as I sit in my shorts and T-shirt inside.

Hate to hear that, Butch. Our heat pump system is on borrowed time per my HVAC man....but, I'm going to milk it as long as I can.

We had to replace our heat pump/ac unit 2 years ago. Glad it's done now.

Welcome to my world! New water heater in July. New mattress in August. Water pump on truck last week. New belt and blades on mower thanks to rock . All in all great to be above ground! Merry Christmas y’all!

Butch I really hate to hear this is happening and I can really feel your pain. I do hope that you can get everything handled in a short manner of time. Our unit is a gas pack and the heat exchange rusted out as well like yours. Being the heat and ac unit we been having the unit patched for the last few years but it's dead now. Our new unit is waiting to be installed setting in a warehouse somewhere. Nothing like those unseen expenses. :dono

I suspect you already have a vendor for the HVAC work, but if you need another or a second opinion, let me know . I found a guy in Elberton that does good work at fair prices.

AC and heater delivered to the house today. Will be installed tomorrow. Gonna HURT writing that check! Once over the pain atleast it will be paid for. Oh, and the water pump on my truck cost me $300 today. The MRI was read today also. Options, wait until the sciatica nerve hurts again and get a shot in the back to see if that helps and if not then do back surgery on the L4-L5 bulging disc. Meeting with PT next Monday and seeing what stretch exercises will be safe with a bulging disc trying to keep the bones off that sciatica nerve. Oh well, getting old doesnt seem to be cracked up to be all fun and games but it is better than the alternative.;)

Sorry to hear your mechanical stuff is giving trouble right now (or ever). Gotta consider how long the old one lasted trouble-free and how long a new one might run before it gives problems. I hope you get a good deal on an even more efficient unit, where it will function well for less money.

I've got a kidney stone acting up & that is exactly not how I want to spend the Holidays.

That sciatic nerve don’t play. I’m just getting over flaring mine back in September. Chiropractor helped and gave me stretches to do. But any work where I have lean over a bit like washing dishes tightens my low back muscles tweaking spine and hips and putting pressure on the nerve. I ice for a bit do my stretches then re-ice it.

Butch, I'll see your AC unit and your Furnce and raise you one knee replacemnet and two hip replacements.
I knew about the knee the hips are a surprise.

That makes things much better for me MThook. Sorry that you had to go thru that though. You just never know how fortunate you are until crap happens.
