Hareline Select Craft Fur.
Interesting stuff. Has an under fur just like real fur does. No flare when you tighten down. I been practicing some of my skill sets. Like Hollow Wrapping, where you bind the materials backwards, then reverse and align and make a damn wrap to collapse them back, instead of wrapping the material itself. This creates the illusion of density, but with just a pinch of material. Moves nicely in the water because it is sparse. The pictures look horrible compared to jig-in-hand viewing.
Jig on bottom has a fox hair chin. Easy to add a dash of color in this fashion, too. Been practicing adding dubbing there. That is why you don’t see those examples. LOL. Anyways it is fun discovering new materials and new techniques.
I dip them into water and see how they move, and upon extraction see what they will look like whilst being drug behind the boat. I like the profile being a more rounded blob, rather than the triangle of a normal bucktail. The material collapses leaving a beer belly effect. Like a nice fat and juicy shad.
The only issue is that I am not really able to form jigs like these when they are underspins. I have to keep those hairs away from the whirling dervish, so they cannot bulge downwards.
Considering doing some hybrids- Manimal……half man- half animal. I mean half tied fibers -half plastic baits. Might get some odd looks from that.
You are certainly perfecting your craft
Made me think of a jet contrail when I saw them

The sprinkles look sparse, because they are. Clear with Silver Holographic Sprinkles, only Protect got cheap on me. I shook it and shook it and still the glitter was sparse. So now I need to buy some glitter and do it myself. I’ll add to my UV and Clear and try to obtain some sparkle after all.
:ThumbsUp:HandsClapping
Glitter is certainly sparse.
Attachment 443411
The idea of glitter is probably a bad one anyways.
Attachment 443413
Same jig, different view for picture.
That eye makes the effect.
Great looking ties as usual
I get my glitter from pickapolish.com Their glitter is super fine as small as .004 and mixes very well. Favorite colors are the Holographic colors in Silver, Gold and Black in the .004

Squirrel tail and deer belly. My shad posier.
I like the combination
Nice
Ran out of jig heads…..again. LOL
1/10th ounce with 1/0 hook.
Made up some that were dipped Glacier White, Glacier White, nose dipped in pink or blue, finished in Clear with sparkles. Some were Glacier White, Chartreuse, Clear with Glitter. Some were White, White, nose in blue, entire jig in Chartreuse, then Clear with glitter. This turned the blue a gorgeous green. Lime green and Yellow. Some were chartreuse and nose of orange. The chartreuse I chose to use glows in the dark. Now they need eyes.

I had an idea regarding tying a shad imitation.

I am happy with how these turned out. Dry they do not look like this. They look like wild haired punk rockers. However, once wetted, they take the shape I am after. These were simply dipped in water with no attempt to stroke the fibers. So this is how they will look whilst swimming, even if a tad more narrow I guess.

flash
Finn Racoon
Pretty easy to manage the progression of materials along the shank. Of course the flash could be added at different stages. I like the thin stuff that has wrinkles that look like scales. Can’t see it unless it shines.
Made some plastic lures, too.

Had a friend call and ask for some jigs to fish the Homosassa River with. I have no clue as to what colors will work. Hopefully there will be some winners in the mix.

Thank you gentlemen. I have been having fun discovering new materials and techniques. Wanting to create a jig of my own.
Seems every time I get started I get another idea, so no two jigs are the same. I see folks tying six - all the same - and wonder why. Guess it is done to sell to one of their clients. Maybe the design is already perfect and they just need six of them.
Recently I was interviewed for a magazine article, which may or may not appear. The man writing the article wanted to get some quotes and some pictures of my jigs. We did two separate interviews and I sent him some photos of my jigs in large groups. I remember him asking why I started making my own jigs instead of just buying them. I answered -“ A fool starts making his own jigs to either save money or make money, as he will not do either”.
Turns out that this author actually knew about me from my old surf fishing days and wants me to do a story about that stuff, too. I told him itis hilarious watching YouTube videos of people describing me, or my junk, as if they had some clue as to why I did this or that. My wife thinks it is pretty cool to be mentioned by strangers. I told him that I did seminars and was on at least seven forums, and tried to be innovative in my approach. I was somewhat successful, well as successful as one can really be without turning it all into some kind of job. :)
Maybe my best stuff will be left on the cutting room floor and the editors will see something else they would rather publish. If I make it I’ll let you guys in on it. Flattering that my jigs have gotten noticed.
Yesterday I swapped a pile of jigs for some work on my boat. See I stopped at the wrong gas station and got a tank full of water. Sucks to be me. Anyways I could not figure a way to get the water out of the built in tank. He removed the hose to the fuel/water separator filter contracption, and eased in some copper pipe, and slid a hose over the other end of the pipe and sucked and syphoned the tank dry. 12 gallons worth of contaminated fuel. I am very happy with my trade. :)
Yes, I am replacing the filters next and then back to boating with a jaundice eye for where I buy gas. I hope the new motor is not damaged. He said his Harley had the same thing happen. Guess our cars just deal with it all.
Today I escort she who must be obeyed and her best buddy to an “Oddities Sale”. I think they are lying when they say it is to get Christmas gifts. I think it is to get them some stuff. She hit me up last night, by handing me the I Pad and telling me to pay for the shoes she had picked out. WOW them shoes didn’t look no different than the ones she has lining the closet walls. Then I caught myself and stopped short of complaining, when I suddenly considered she doesn’t complain about my fishing junk. Hmmmmmm…..wisdom is finally coming to me. I placed the order.
Going to only buy a few gifts this year. The grocery bill has me sorely short of extra cash. Man it is insane seeing eggs listed at $10, or hamburger at $20. I feel terrible as I leave the store thinking I spent way too much. I hear rumors it will all get worse soon, too. Farmers are warning us that they cannot afford to grow the food. Gasoline is about to go much higher soon. too. Exxon Mobil made record profits this year, so I am not at all sure who it was our rulers were wanting to stick it to, because they missed and hit us instead.
I have been listening to Christmas music instead of the news. I like the old Bing Crosby styled stuff. Nobody can sing along near as well as I. Others cringe, but I continue on. Some people just can’t discern what quality sounds like. She put up the fake tree last night and left it lit all night long.
My mom had knee surgery so I am sitting her dog for her. Dumb thing pees and poops everywhere. I set down those pads where ever she has gone before. Still I try to teach it and just this morning got it to go outside instead of the living room. Hope springs eternal. She is at least trying to get along. My wife’s chihuahua doesn’t dislike her, but doesn’t exactly play with her either. An exercise in toleration probably describes it best. I am going to order a sweater for the huahua so my wife thinks I like her little dog.
Eggs, burger, and gas significantly less expensive here. Nice to have 2 deer in the freezer and about 25# of venison burger . That bottom fly looks like a sculpin or goby. Should be a killer. Thanks for the posts. Good luck shopping.
I have heard that there was 8 million less laying hens ordered for the 2023 season. That means 8 million less eggs a day to sell.
Waiting on the women.
Wanted a better way to get pictures of my lures. Trial run here…..whatcha think ?

I like the bearded style as the fibers look wild now, but when wet they come inward. Trolled they would/should imitate the belly of a bait fish. I have been adding flash to the tail, like most others do, but am thinking it might be better in the belly section. Short strands and close in behind the head. Hard to know what would be best as the fish don’t share their preferences in a straight forward fashion.
You know that Santa is on his way
He has loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh
And every mother’s child strains to see
If reindeer really know how to fly
Very nice ties as usual
Have you used lateral scale for flash? Great innovation and photography. I'm envious:biggrin
Just wanted to say thanks for posting the picture of the magnets holding the jigheads, great idea.
Thank you and you are welcome.
Flash is kind of an irritant to me. They tell me ‘just a hint’, but then I see it an want more. I have several kinds and not sure of the names as it is a few years old. Here is what I think I prefer.

As you view it there is a pattern of small rectangles. Crystal flash has balls. To me the rectangles look a little better. The material is very easily damaged. Once kinked it is useless. I will look into your suggestion. Thanks.
I saw a video where a man used a hank of crystal flash. I am using a single strand cut up to make 8 pieces. I lay it along the shank, a few wraps, then ease equal parts down either side and lash down. Pretty easy technique. I used to be frustrated until I figured that out.
Another thing that is worth mentioning is my new adhesive for eyes. Dr Nip recommended it and it works very well. BSI Slow Cure epoxy. A two equal portions epoxy that allows plenty of time to fiddle with eyes. I squirt out a blob, then match that blob with part 2, then mix for a while using a wooden skewer. Then I daub some on the jig head. Once all have some, I use the skewer to stroke the side of the jig. This creates a thin layer that covers the side of the jig. Add eyes and wait.
Once done, the eyes are nicely attached. I cannot get my thumbnail to engage the edge of the eye. Feels as if an overcoat has been applied, even though one has not. Weird but I am very happy I don’t need to coat the eyes as it always steals some of their luster.

I think that is the pink lateral scale flash by Hedron.
1/69" Dyed Mirage Lateral Scale
Been trying to figure what those bearded jigs remind me of. Certainly look a lot like Oscar's. With all the tropical invasive species in Florida those should be very popular amongst the fish
I am attempting to create a shad profile. As the lure gets trolled, I imagine the lure will then go from Court Jester to Sister Shad. Develop a pot belly. It is a little different I know, but I am kind of liking the idea. Other lures can be more of a minnow shape profile of course, but having some of these might be kind of nice to have aboard. The underspins certainly get something out of their beer belly profile. Why not try ?
I like the idea of sticking with just a few color combinations for now. Proven combinations.
Pink and White
Green and Chartreuse
Purple and Pink
Purple and Chartreuse
and Mr Crappie’s fine suggestion of a Blue and White.
I also like silvers and greys.
I like hairy jigs, too. Too many colors to chase. Like a hawk diving into a flock of fowl. Easy to miss the tastiest one for being distracted by the one you could never get anyways. Sticking with just a few select color combinations will be helpful. Focus on other things. Don’t waste time choosing odd colors and buying weirdly stuff.
If I am making a mistake, it is having too much material. I need to slim down and choose materials with a little more concern for action, than just the color. Tail, flash, body, belly hair, and head.
I think I should try to go sparse. Let’s see if I can manage that. LOL

See how the belly tucks in to offer the appearance of the shad’s profile. Not perfect, but that is where I am at now. Tail wags and the gut wags. Forgot to put flash in it as I wanted to follow up with the comments.
Thanks
Looks like a spray painted cockatiel. LOL
No need to buy Death Scope for $1500. Buy an underwater drone for half of that and really get to see what is down there. Google it. $800 and you can see just fine.
