does anyone know about old Mitchell reels? I am a moron LOL

I have an old Mitchell 300 reel and I took the spool off to clean it, so I have a spool, a red washer, a 3 prong thing, and a plastic nut. Where does the washer go? and which way does the 3 prong thing go?

goliaths of the open faced world , true giants in performance , can take a serious beating and still perform well .....

they are built like tanks, eveyone should use one at least once!

Growing up Dad had both the 308 and 410 Mitchell reels. I was Stationed in Greece at his passing, and ALL his outdoor stuff, hunting and fishing, was gone when I got home on emergency leave. I was pretty busy supporting mom and never realized it till after returning to the states later. Mom said it should all be in the garage, but nothing was there. Great reels for sure.

My dad had a old round back case Quick that he wouldn’t part with, even though it never worked more than a little while. I wasn’t allowed one and by the time I could afford my own there was others that caught my eye. They have an almost cult like following.

I still use the 300 that my father purchased for me in 1957. Use it to bass fish with a no weight weedless rigged plastic worm at the LOZ

I have a couple old 300's as well as the modern version. The older ones I had cleaned and lubed. I got them off ebay, and aren't as good as described. I will find one of the older ones in better shape, more for nostalgia than anything. I primarily use the Pflueger Presidents lately.

I had two of the 308's and sold them to a friend (probably close to 50yrs ago). He wanted them for distance casting tournaments at our local Sportsman's League. He took the bails off, & spooled them with very light mono (probably 2lb test). I never found out how well he did with them, or even if only he used them or he & his brother used them. The reels were "well used" when I sold them, but I really can't remember from whom I got them ... and I don't remember actually ever using them, myself. I think I was still in the spincast game back in those days (for Crappie), and just a newbie to baitcast reels (for Bass).
