Running braid to a leader & have tried several different ways of rigging. Have also ran straight braid too. How do you avoid the braid wrapping around the tip? I'm using 15lb diawa j braid to a 10 lb. mono leader & most times a 1/16 jighead with plastic. Sometimes i put a split shot on to drop quicker & have tried the egg sinker or bullet weight above a small swivel with leader to the jig head & still get wrapped with either setup. Happens mostly on hook set. Which way is less prone to do it?
If you mean the braid gets looped around the tip when setting the hook, it's likely that you are dropping the rod tip forward before you jerk back on the rod. Braid is very light and flexible, so loose line is easily wind blown ... and the forward motion, even an inch or two, creates slack and can push a bit of the braid between the tip and lower guide away from them, then on the reverse motion (hookset) that slack loop can wrap around the tip.
Same situation can occur when casting (braid or mono), if you use a quick wrist snap casting motion.
Best I can suggest is to train yourself to slightly lift the rod tip before setting the hook, rather than dropping the tip and then setting the hook. If you have extra weight on the line, lifting the rod tip beforehand will not put any more "pressure" on the fish than when you drop the rod tip (allowing the weight to also drop).
:hesaid. I have also found new braid to be worse about it. As it gets broken in it gets a lot more subtle and easier to deal with
I actually find the diawa j braid way worse than when new because it seems a lot more limp than when new. Pappy I probably am lowering the rod without noticing it. Thanks guys.
2 choices , throw away the braid , or watch me hammer with my mono while you untangle that mess ......:Rofl
Hold on now, there’s one more way to beat the problem. Go to heavy braid and use a leader. I’m currently using 65 lb braid.Quote:

Just for my 13 ft. acc crappie stix i vertical jig with. I pitch it a little at times for more distance though. The 15 lb. looked pretty rough & had got bad limp so figured it was worth a try atleast. I have one of the cheap 10-foot black widows that i cast with & don't have any problems with it so i'll see what happens.Quote:

I use braid on my bass tube rod, a rig rods & a few braid to leader setups & never had this problem on them but this is a spinning rod so i must be doing something different.
Could possibly be the method of casting, weights of the lures, or simply the difference in mechanics of the spinning vs baitcast reels.Quote:

light braid will cause you to lose so many cheap jigs it aint even funny , that stuff will slip thru a crack you cant EVEN see on the eyelet,

p.s. but you can use it on a calm wind day when the fish are not biting well anyway ....:crazy:
and rod tips are nothing , wait till it wraps around a finger tip and gets yanked hard by whatever else it gets tangled in , there isnt enough ugly words to use when it cuts you almost to the bone , I promise ya that is fact :Rofl
