Never fish live baits.
I've never used minnows, very rarely use floats.
Rarely use minners anymore, or bobbers/floats. Mainly jig/plastics or marabou Road Runners.
If I’m gonna Float-n-fly, I’ll pull them at slow speeds with 6-8 rods out the back. All will have jig heads under a float and some will be jigs only, some minnows only, and then a combo with jigs tipped with minnows. I’ll let the fish determine what they like.
I single pole fish jigs, no float.
Either pitch to cover or vertical down to the fish.

No minnows but will use a float and hair or plastic in shallow water. Usually spawning time.

No minnows here either. There are times I will use a float though.
I wondered about it at night since they aren’t biting it that good vertical jigging.
I grew up fishing a jig under a float. Started in the mid sixties. Was easier for a wee younguns to catch fish.
When l lived on Douglas lake in Tennessee during the winter months the preferred method of many fishing was a float and jig, some tipped with minnow and many limits of crappie were caught using this method.
It is also good spring time spawning.

No minnie's here as we are not allowed to use them in my state that I currently reside. I vertical jig and slip bobber using artificial.
