I may be the odd man out, and I appreciate the moderators shooting a "happy birthday" to folks (maybe privately)? But it seems like over half of the posts are birthday related?
Seems like the focus should be on fishing in the state of KY.

Nothing wrong with birthday wishes but like you i'm surprised there are hardly ever any post about fishing in Ky. :dono
I will send to Slab and see if he can add an “off topic” forum like a lot of the other states have. That would clean this one up for fishing related only.
Well, I have not fished as much as normal for the pass year or so. That is why I have not been posting very much. But I usually post about everytime I go.....
I'm of the opinion that, like me, a lot of the KY members have not been fishing ... that may be in part because of the weather, work, the inflation problem (higher prices specifically), etc.
A lot of the "Birthday Wishes" posts are to people that haven't even been on the site for years. That's fine, and maybe another member (that knows them) will see it and tell them, prompting them to get back to posting. :dono
The birthdays are spotted in the "Today's Birthdays" section, at the bottom of the main forum listing page, then checked for their state of residence, then posted on that state's page. One would have to look at each member's profile page to find out when they last were present on the site to know if they're active or have been absent for some time. That's a lot of work, and likely the reason why even those that haven't been on the site for months/years still have their birthdays posted. I have no problem with that, and I have no problem with SuperDave asking Slab for a "off topic/birthday" sub-forum.
I'm sure there are a few members that have passed on, lost interest/left, moved out of state, forgot their password, or whatever ... and their membership status still shows them as active members, thus they will show up in the "Birthdays Today" section.
I haven't been out since July 28th & that was catfishing. August always seem to be a busy month for me. Mowing, bush-hogging the farm, gardening & vacations., It won't be long now though. I'm a Fall, Winter & Spring guy I guess. :fish
I did a guide trip in mid July. We left Lynnhurst at 6:00 and saw the first recreation or fishing boat at 10:30. Lake traffic has been very low this summer $5 gas has everything to do with it.

What's wrong with birthday wishes?? At least I know there are people still alive on here. In. has a separate forum for birthdays and I hardly ever look at the forum when I see the last post was a birthday that was a week ago.
I'm leaving it up to Slab, as to whether or not we have a "OT" sub-forum. But I did stipulate that it would be titled something to do with "birthdays", rather than an open off topic forum.
We missed mine, back in March. It’s o k though, I don’t get phone service at taylorsville. Or, for that matter green river.

I have nothing against the "happy birthday wishes." I am one of those that pappy referenced. I have not been fishing in several weeks due to other life events getting in the way. Hope to be back after them soon. Maybe we will all have a fall filled with good fishing. I know I am looking forward to trying.
I agree, the birthday wishes are annoying and just a reminder that you aren't accepted in the clique when you get "overlooked."
Maybe if I sugar-coated stuff more and wasn't a Kyle Busch fan someone might actually wish me Happy Birthday, but until then ya'll can go eat mud.
If your Birthday is hidden in your user profile. The sight doesn't show you on the list of birthdays
You should have had to give your email address when joining the site, and therefore would receive a "HBD" from the site, via that email address. (according to Slab)Quote:

It seems to me that all of the fishing forum traffic for Ky. started declining about the same time Ky. and Barkley Lakes started their decline. It's slow on the other fishing sites as well. You hardly ever see a post about either lake these days when they used to take up probably half the posts.
We are trying to keep it on the down low when we catch a keeper fish on Barkley.:biggrin
I think everybody deserves a special day and a little recognition, and Jack does a nice job keeping up with everybody.

I got nothing against birthday wishes. I also strongly support the idea of a seperate sub forum for them.
I havnt posted in a long time on the Kentucky forum because I havnt crappie fished since spring when my boat died lol.
I do agree tho that there has def been a decrease in activity compared to other years. And I can see a variety of reasons why. Gas prices, weather, chores, life in general. I get it! Just sad to see the decline.
