it has been over 25 yrs since I have had a fishing boat, now as I ease toward retirement, I am trying to get an idea of what I want. I need help with the jon boat selection. I am looking for a new inexpensive one about 14 ft long, any suggestions? you can also PM me for dealer suggestions, I will drive up to 500 miles from Little Rock to pick one up.

Go 16 ft... it is not that much more and will plane out better with the motor.
If you are getting older I would consinder a wide open plan platform as well. It also depends if you are gonna be fishing slick water or if you are gonna have to be alittle rougher on it. I have an Alweld and really like it but there's so many good companies out there.

I would spend the little extra and get a 16 footer also. They are simply more stable than a 14 footer and the cost is minimal. Also make sure you get a electric start outboard. Pulling a rope get's old quickly. I fish out of a 14ft fiberglass skiff with a 25 hp Mercury.
I’m 65 and a little bigger than average. I have a 16’ Jon that I came on by sheer luck. What I want to suggest you to take a serious look at is an 1860. Look into Richard Gene the fishing machine on YouTube. He uses one exactly like I’m speaking of. It’s probably a bit more than you thought of but it is also so much more boat than you’ve ever dreamed of. 60” wide across the floor it’s stable and won’t move out from underneath you when you lose your balance. It doesn’t have to have a giant motor but the bigger boat will give you more fishing years than a skinnier 14’ will. I for one don’t want to hear of any misfortunes from a slip and fall or bad weather. Good luck in your search.

I will also suggest looking at a stick steer boat their generally about 16' and actually look at the Ultimate panfish boat it looks really nice (I seen a YouTube video this past weekend with them trying it out on the water). I've never been in one but from talking to guys that have love them especially older people really like them because once you get in you can do everything from the front seat without having to get up and move around it defiantly might be worth looking at.
15-16 ft war eagle but they are not cheap . Todays market does not have a low budget aluminum boat that is easy on the pocket book . Find a used war eagle made in your state (should be easy to find ) they will warranty any boat made in their plant that was made while they owned it . No original owner or 2nd owner in 5 yr. period junk . Have seen 15 and 16 ft go for 3500 . 00 with trolling motor and 25 hpr. motors .

Creeks or smaller rivers or big open lakes ?
Then we will have a much better idea of good options.
