Will be fishing for stripers. Any one know which month they bite the best?
October is usually a good fall striper bite, but no personal Clarks Hill experience
I agree with Foxy, October is a pretty good month for stripers on Clarks hill. At some point during the month there should be some schooling activity too!
Last year I had the Cooper family stay at my house down there for a week in Oct. They had a great time and I helped them catch 12-15 per day. While not stellar numbers, they say they had a great time!

Also, when the crows go to the woods in the fall and it gets quiet on the water, the Crappie turn on too! Look up old posts from Butch (Gabowman) and you'll see what I'm talking about!!
Chris
Been going down in Jan. last few years and fishing down towards Ga. Little River so we are going to stay near Modoc this fall. Have Bobby Brown booked for April 15 for a week next year. You been catching lots of fish?
Last Sunday morning we caught 14. 9 stripers, 4 cats and 1 perch. Midlake on a point. The lake is quickly losing oxygen in the deep places so the fish are moving to more comfortable places. They're hard to keep up with this time of year.
We always spend the week around April 16th down there for my buddy Perry's birthday....
Sounds like a good catch Chris. Especially for as hot and humid as it's been. Congrats.
Mid to late December can be really good. Once the lake gets into the mid 50’s. Fish get in the creeks good and group up.
For a fall bite I like it when the surface temps are bumping 70* or slightly lower at first light.
I'm talking about crappie since that's about all I fish for but in general it seems all fish start getting on the move and feeding up some as the water cools. I'm sure the optimal temps are different for different species but that's a good starting point to me. JMO............
Did you figure out when you’re coming down?

No not yet, looks like sometime in Nov. but not sure yet.
If you can change your schedule to go now instead of later, go now. We caught 21 yesterday and 31 this morning.

Most were caught on live herring. Both downlines and flatlines were effective. A couple were caught on top water.

Sounds good but we can not come down till fall.
It’s too bad y’all can’t come now, it’s as good as I’ve seen in years.

The numbers of feeding fish are phenomenal. We caught over 40 on Saturday morning and 30+ this morning .
All were gently handled and returned to wrestle with another day.

We ended up with 32 this morning as well, also all released. I think it was your boat that pulled in behind us this morning. Man they were on fire early. But they slowed dramatically after the first 40 minutes or so. It took me a little time to get back on them once they pulled off that little shallower spot. But we finally just got in a deeper hole full of herring on the bottom and let them come to us.
Stripers are fun to catch when they cooperate. Wish you'll were closer to us it's just too much of a drive and come home the same day. If I were 30 something I'd be there this morning. Keep posting I like to hear of good fishing trips. :highfive
Yeah it looks good, we got one boat running and now working on other one, painting it is all and then we can fish again.
Good luck.
Deer season is less than a week away or I'd be fishing. Cooler nites are right around the corner and the rains too?!? The lake water has GOT to start cooling down soon. Stay on 'em Chris. Love reading your reports.:)
This morning was considerably slower. We ended up with 18 “eating size” stripers but again, put em all back. Still a great day, just not the on fire of the previous days.

Looks like we will come down the first week or two of Dec. Looking at staying at Hamilton Branch and fish the lower end of lake.
Should be a lot of hybrids in the creeks by then, possibly some back in Parksville area too. If you can’t find them on the SC side check around Cherokee and Grays creeks on the Georgia side. Not a bad run to them at all from Hamilton Branch.
