Those waves get big,,,big enough to throw a big boat like that on top of some timber and poke some might big holes in your bottom,,,,
I was breaking a new motor in a few years back and we had a 5 mph . due east wind . Water was white capping at clear creek . I used to think Pickwick was the only bad water in Mississippi other than the Mississippi River . These C.O.E. lakes get ugly fast .
Can anyone summarize exactly what happened?
According to a friend of mine who was fishing same tournament, they decided to run into that little inlet because of the lightening. Put down power poles with bow on bank. Waves knocked boat sideways and swamped it. Another guy made a run for holiday lodge but ended up sinking out from it. He ended up being able to swim in. I’m assuming because he had his jacket on. Storm blew up real quick and only lasted 45 minutes. The one in pictures they were able to pump water out and get it back to ramp and on trailer.
We used to have a place at holiday years ago. When the wind is out of the south, that ramp is dangerous. You have to time the waves coming in to drop someone off to get the truck. Then when you load you have to time the waves getting on the trailer.
Sometimes it was better to just wait it out, out on the water.

Once any boat get sideways to the seas, beached, not much you can do. I take care of a small fleet for a family. One of their boats was a 300 Grady White. It pulled the anchor in a storm, blew into the island beach they were spending the night near, and once the boat got sideways it sank on the beach. The surf filled it with sand and shells. The insurance company totaled it.
Sardis is one cruel girl once she gets caps flowing,,,and they say Ranger won’t sink,,,huh…
The gales of November came early
Wow! That is pretty insane. From the comments it sounds like everyone walked away. This good to hear!
