Have any of you used a flexible extension (for drills)to turn your independent livescope pole? I made a mount out of PVC and am looking to make it more user friendly. Was thinking about using a flexible extension so that I can easily sweep and adjust.

I’m out of town right now, but can share when I get back. Have a basic PVC setup, but looking to add something to turn it without having to physically touch the PVC pole. I was thinking about installing a drill extension (similar to below), so that I could adjust the direction from near my rod holders or fish finder mount. Attachment 431614

Now you’re gonna start Rickie brainstorming.
An old foot controlled trolling motor mount could make for some hands free turning.
You could use sch40 fittings and make a handle from pipe with an end cap
I’ve thought real hard about an old trolling motor, but couldn’t come up with a way that doesn’t add a lot of clutter. I would probably have went this route if I could have mounted it under my Terrova. I’m already looking for a better way to secure the PVC pole when transporting, so that I can get it off if the deck but not damage the transducer.
I do have a handle on the PVC, but since I put it toward the front it is on the opposite side of the rod holders.

How did you mount it to the deck?
Ram mount on the edge of bow, under trolling motor.

I liked the functionality of a few of the aluminum poles, but didn’t like how it mounted to the boat. Ram mount was the easiest for me.

The gentleman selling the one in classifieds shared the YouTube video for the one he made. I like the extension for a socket because it seems like it would be one that can be removed, but still rigid. Not sure I will like the longer pipe vs flexible cable that could be routed anywhere. Once I get back from Florida, I’ll sit in the boat and see exactly how long of cables I’d need.

The one Charlie Burrows made definitely works good. Fishin Ken on Hook City has one he made with hydraulic hose to turn his with & it works good too. I mounted a bench top bicycle repair stand to my front deck & put my d i y pvc pole in it & it works great.
I used a section of power washer hose attached to top of transducer pole like Fishin Ken and mounted bracket and pillow block off stabilizer mounting holes on bottom of Garmin troller. I need to add some drag to the bearing so it stays where you point it better but slightly turning the hose will point the head wherever you want while several feet back from transducer pole.

Does it stay in place well? I was worried about the pole inadvertently turning with the hoses or socket extension when it was laying slack. The main reason I was looking at drill extensions is because everything turning internal, but I’m worried about the torque with it.Quote:

It works fine but I am going to add a piece of rubber on an adjustable knob that contacts one of the collars on the shaft to create some drag; sometimes pole moves when you adjust positions with the trolling motor.

Went with the socket and flexible extension. It works a lot better than bending over to move the handle. I didn’t put a knob on it yet, so that will be something I incorporate next.

Hydraulic hose with a pipe thread ends and then adapt to your size pipe. Use a short section of bigger sizes hose 1-1/2”+ just long enough that it will bend 90degrees and then a piece of pipe to use to twist it with a tee. You can install a tee on your down pipe to act as a pointer or cut a pipe of cutting board into a point and drill a hole and put on as a pointer also.

I’m thinking about hydraulic hose similar to what’s already been used on another brand. Have to drill into a cap to secure the hose then glue the cap on. Stiff enough to flex and turn but also movable
I think it would be more rigid than the 3/8” flexible extensions that I used. I had to decrease the tension to turn it without the extension folding over. Hasn’t given me any issues trolling though, so it may work out well.Quote:
