WindowPane
Here's two attempts from today at WindowPane.
The two jigs in the previous post were rough attempts while these two are little better.
The basic idea is to leave the inner layer of hair showing through the outer layer of hair while providing a contrast in the two.
The hair is tied on in four separate actions, starting with the inner hair, one bundle on each side. Adding some flash on top and bottom completes the first tie.
A different color thread is used to start so that it can show through the window after the top and bottom hair added. Thought that might be a nice touch to have that color there.
Two bundles of hair are added on top and bottom of the hook shank to complete the contrasting tie. It's been a little difficult to keep the hair separated so far, the goal being a crisp separation between the two colors.
Adding a red color collar behind the head seemed like a good idea, so it was done on the second tie from this morning.
Adding UV glue over the thread gives a little more shine than Krazy glue alone.
The final two jigs are good fishing quality for sure and look okay for now. Some fine tuning and better technique would surely help.
I took some pics step by step. If anyone's interested. Can post them later.
The first two are from yesterday, third one is the first one from the morning after adding the red highlight behind the black thread and using black and white hair as an example for contrast, and the last one is pretty close to the mental image of the idea.
Thinking of the various material possibilities results in a multitude of possible variations.
Standby for the future variations of windowpane.

Great explanation and delivery! Thank you.

Thank you.
This is getting more into what I want to try to do with various pieces of material. It takes a little more doing, but it's still a nice relaxing tie.

Thank you all.
It's cooled off this evening so it's out to the shack to try again.

Got up too early to go fishing so decided to tie one before I left. Might have been afflicted by temporary color blindness on this one
The red that's showing in the top blue is SF fiber.Attachment 431306

Caught a few fish today on a mix of hair and plastic jigs. Not biting real well and seemed to quit about 10.
Tied and Orange and Tan jig this evening on an 1/8 head.
Added some Fl Shell Pink flash with the orange.
Decided to try the standalone ring on the black collar using Iridescent thread. Worked pretty well on the rear so added one behind the head too.
Jig came out pretty good overall.

Yeah Buck, tan and orange look good together.
Here's another one that came out about like the original idea, with the inner hair unobstructed by the outer hair.
After looking at the previous jig, the outer hair got out of alignment and covered more of the inner, that's not a bad look either. I'll post a pic of the opposite side of the previous jig too.

Finishing it up with two more like the last variation.
That's what happens when you let your mind wonder when tying, I guess.

Looking good rezz. Nice thread work also.

Thank you Todd.
Might try one using the tan to soften the orange to more of a glow.

been following your flies and i like the green head and top white one.i do use thin sparse ones like yours more in cold temps. for the summer temps i use ones with more profile. if you tied on another color but shorter length over your thread wraps, but tie them tips forward. then fold them back so they are just past the hook bend. by building the body over the butts has a slower fall ,bigger profile. you can also let the color show thru if sparse.

Thanks, Rich.
Your thoughts make sense.
I've tried a few by folding the hair back over itself, like clousers and preachers.
That back fold is likely to show up somewhere in the future.
