I know Ketchn uses and knows the Dobyns brand of rods. Maybe he would know something about it. :dono
I had to check these out. This is straight from the Dobyns website. It appears that they kinda made a bunch of them wrong and are selling them at a good discount. Attachment 431014

Ouch. Expensive to say the least.
This rod is a little out of my budget. I will say that I have owned some of their higher end bass rods and liked them very much.
Gary Dobyns is holding quite a bit of my money and I have no complaints. He markets some of his products to the higher end of the price range. Top of the line components don't come cheap, but normally result in a better product.
This level is not necessary, but may increase your overall fishing experience. Fish with a tip heavy rod all day as opposed to a balanced one and you'll understand. I admire him for this-- he straight up told you this batch of rods doesn't meet the quality he wants,
but if you want to buy them at the reduced price, they are still a decent rod.

I have a new series panfish 6 footer on order from the panfish line as I type ,was trying to buy a backup colt series panfish special like I am currently using and was talked into this new version of the one I have , supposed to be EVEN nicer than the colt series panfish special 6 footer I use and let me make this clear , the 6 foot version is a heart throb rod , just has it going on bigtime as a panfish rod for sure .
no they aint paying me to type this stuff either .....
and yes I heard the long rod was out of sight cost wise ,,,,no worries dont want one ,,,,:Rofl

I'm very happy with my Dobyns bass rods in both casting & spinning. I wouldn't expect less in a crappie rod. He makes good stuff for sure.
Have to ask Gary Dobyns that question, figure they priced them where they think they can do the best with them. Josh Jones has a big following on social media and Dobyns rods are pretty popular mid to high end bass rods. There are quite a few people coming from bass fishing into crappie fishing now because of Livescope and are used to using nicer rods. This rod isn’t really being marketed to the crowd that likes $40 crappie rods, it’s more of a niche market. Depends on how you look at it I guess, it’s pretty cheap compared to buying eight BnM trolling rods and eight reels to get setup to spider rig or troll. You really only need one or two rods to do majority fishing with Livescope.Quote:

Can't speak for that particular rod, but when you think about it like this, it's not that bad.

That'll put 2 or 3 really nice rods and reels in your hands for the intended purpose of what the Dobyns rods are for.
Personally don't use them, but nothing against them. Found ACC first and happy with them. Southern Crappie Rods is about to drop two new scope rods, and I'll probably end up with two of the 14fters when they do because I've held them and they're incredible.
I probably dont want to hold one. USUALLY, as far as rods are concerned, if rods range anywhere from $15-$270 for a specific purpose (jigging), they feel exactly where they fall in that range. Sometimes ignorance is bliss if you don't like parting with your money
Thanks for the replies. Just curious to how folks liked these rods. A bit expensive but may be worth the money to a more serious crappie fisherman or woman .
I expect high quality from Dobyns and I own several Dobyns Bass rods that cost as much as this crappie rod.
I can’t see paying that price for a crappie rod, I usually get mine from bass pro or bnm, that’s a hefty price. Unless every time I let it down there’s a 12-15 inch crappie on it. Just saying, sorry your money, do what u want.
Buy whatever suits you, I own several expensive bass rods, Dobyns. I will not pay that much for a crappie rod. I can't , for now anyway, justify that price.
However a lot of more serious crappie anglers do spend that or more on crappie rods. I understand that as the quality from Dobyns is worth the higher price and customer service is really good.
As it is I spend most of my fishing time chasing bass . Buying fishing gear is fun and new more sensitive well balanced crappie rods appeal to lots of folks.
Just curious as to how others feel about high end equipment.
Some of us only drop on fish that are in that 13-15”” inch fish range, or at least try to only drop on the bigger fish. These rods aren’t marketed for the average guy sitting on a brush pile full of 9”” inch crappie. I have caught a pile of fish and won a lot of money in tournaments with B n M rods and absolutely nothing wrong with them. But trying to compare a B n M to these rods is apples to oranges, not even in the same ball park.Quote:
