When battery technology gets a lot better. I see it as a viable option. At current levels many would have to change the way they fish
Sure hope so! Would love to see dirt bikes all go electric. The woods would be so much quieter and the air cleaner. Win win.
Are there any on the major crappie or bass circuits yet? If not, I'd expect to see a few within a couple of years. But as Jack mentioned, I think we have to become more efficient with batteries first.
I can tell you this; No one will be able to run you out fuel a (Charge) like when you're out of gas. Expect the Marine Towing Companies to grow in size. Other Electric Propulsion vessels won't be able to tow you in any real distance. As long as the motor has a winding, no matter how they fire the SCR's to minimize battery load, a vessel displacing instead of planning will suck a charge down at a very accelerated rate.
They way the bass guys run around they will be dead in half a day. Just sayin. I will keep my 4 stroke that doesn't hardly use any fuel. As long as I can. Maybe I can tow a few in !! Lol !!

Wonder if you could carry a smaller lithium battery as a backup? Something just to get back to a dock to charge the motors battery.
Possibly. It would have a limited range
New technology replaces old ideas and practices, eh? No matter what your power source you are responsible for monitoring your own situation.
I’ll keep my 4 stroke as well…
When gas outboard are outlawed....:Rofl
You know the rest.:biggrin
You think the boat ramps are a mess now with unloading & loading. Wait til you guys are waiting in line to charge you batteries at the loading docks. There will be 4 charging stations cause that's all the states can afford to install. There's 300 boats on the water.

I'll be keeping my gas engine too, but would consider for new purchases. I like the idea, but wouldn't want to get a generation 1.
Batteries store energy, still have to have diesel and coal to make the energy for the batteries to store.

Currently we do not have enough power generation to charge the batteries if internal combustion engines are phased out
I say bring it on. Stuff like this will make them release sodium ion batteries faster. There's a whole nother level we know nothing about just saying.

True.. unless we have batteries charging batteries.

This has my interest. Sounds like a rabbit hole I will dive into and check out

My understanding of current battery technology isn’t near as green as stated. Yes they are low emission. But what do you do with them when they won’t hold a charge anymore? Are they recyclable? I’m told no. And certain toxic components of them are coming from third world countries where folks gather the stuff barehanded, exposing themselves to health risks to earn a dollar, sometimes kids. We have a lot more to do before I’ll jump on that wagon.
Got a E-mail from our power co-op just last week saying not to worry but...for the first time ever,we might have few rolling black outs this summer.
I thought thats cool, I don't even know a person with a electric vehical yet;)
here in Texas we won't be trying the new technology on marine engines, kuz, IF IT DONT RAIN SOON there wont be enough water left to put a boat in the lake , heard tell the closed lake waco, belton and stillhouse last week to boats and even the beaches on some of them too.
there is an upside though , fish in a barrel .....:Rofl
Attachment 430388. They already had it figured out on back to the future
Just put my order in for a 2028 Tesla Boat! :Rofl
I think this is the start. I can see them harnessing the wind and sun while out to help charge the batteries or power supply. Who knows what the future holds but I think fossil fuels will be phased out.
I also see a move to at least lower the reliance on fossil fuels. Fossil fuel energy companies are currently getting onboard with reducing the carbon footprint, which is working to reduce emissions and capturing carbon from the atmosphere. In the south, we will need major upgrades to the grid infrastructure to even meet winter storm needs.
theysaid and that will be a good thing for all.
Well, I guess I will have to resort to oars. at least until my old arms can't pull them anymore. :dono.
With that technology I'm pretty sure I would be late for work. I sure do love smelling that two stroke smoke and hearing my diesel turbo scream for more...lol

Would always carry a backup gas powered generator for those days when the battery runs out.

Absolutely viable when solar panel technology improves. The two 100 watt panels I have hooked to an mppt controller would probably keep up with the 55lbs Terrova I have at 50% ouput. That will get you about 1mph with no wind or current. I neat project would be a lightweight houseboat with panels as the roof. As long as you had plenty of time to get there It would be an enjoyable trip. As a safety net I do believe you would need a generator that could be used to get you out of a bad situation should the need arise
