Good afternoon. Question about hanging brush under dock.

Haven’t been here in a while. I will look sometimes but haven’t posted on a long time. Looks like a lot of the same people are here and I hope you’re all doing well.
Ive been tasked with sprucing up the dock fishing at our club. The Corp is allowing us to extend 20 more ft and the end will be in 25ft at full pool.
I can make some good bamboo brush piles but want to try and do some things a little more permanent. I’m not getting any younger. Attached is a 10 ft piece I made this weekend. And after this I installed several 1/2” pvc pipes in the opened holes.I believe we will be getting a Green Blob LED light and will put it on a timer. My thoughts are to put the light in the middle of the dock. And some brush in front of each bench. The benches are each about 10 ft away from the middle. So the brush would sort of be in the shadows of the light. Would you hang this vertically? Say from about 6ft to 16ft down? Or horizontally? Suspending about 10-12 ft down? I can make more. Probably two per bench. Thanks in advance.

Looks great. I would think vertical would be better than horizontal?

I vote vertical also. It would give you the areas for the fish to relate to. In a bigger area depth wise.

You know, the way that cover has been used forever is vertical but if you think about it a little many crappie are caught on laydowns. Maybe trying horizonal wouldn't be a bad idea. :scratchhead Someone has to be the first to try it :fish

vertical obviously as they can relate to different depths but as you can do multiples why not pair it with a horizontal section few feet away and see what works best. would imagine you would have them on both but the vertical gives them more options.

Not knowing what you have in the bottom if anything to hold it down. I would think about movement. We have some in Wylie and they are stationary with two-foot section on the bottom with cement to bury in the mud when dropped. Also, the top has a 2-liter bottle inserted with the cap down so to help hold the air longer period of time and hold it up right. I'm thinking if you have deep water, it may be better to have it on the bottom so crappie can adjust to their comfort zone and add one above it like you are talking about tied off but weighted on the bottom to help keep it from moving easily. Just thinking of course! :scratchhead

They will suspend under the dock. And I would probably put a brick in the bottom of the pipe and pvc cap glued on to keep the brick from falling out. I plan to slide pvc pipes over the rope it hangs on so no one gets hung up. So they would be subject to current swaying them a little. I did suspend this one 15 years ago but haven’t checked it in a long time. And it’s in the middle of the dock. These would be in front of each bench.

All finished up. Happy with how it turned out. Made 4 of them. Hung vertically. 6ft down. Connecting them to the dock with cables. Even added a 4” feed tube that can be accessed behind the bench. It protrudes slightly out from under the dock to hopefully disperse any food the fisherman wants to use to bring in the bait. Attachment 430107Attachment 430108Attachment 430109Attachment 430110
