Anglers cited for catching 100-plus crappie over the legal limit

Glad they were caught.
Would like to know the whole story!
Is it possible that some of these folks may have been on a camping trip maybe and just didn’t know the possession limits law?
either way ignorance of the law still isn’t a excuse and it’s obvious that they will pay ! Looks like a fine for over the limit plus $25 bucks per fish that will get fed to the birds once no longer needed for evidence!
I am absolutely 100% in agreement with obeying daily creel limits but a lot of the possession limits if forced are very stiff .
so to just help us be aware here is the law for my state and one of the neighboring states that I fish quite a bit !
in my state it is a violation of Alabama law to transport more than one day’s creel limit of any species of fish beyond the boundaries of this state!
In Tennessee
law states The total possession limit is twice the daily creel limit and you may not have in possession while afield more than the daily creel limit!
It's a little less harsh in KY, as far as the "Possession Limit". Here, once you "process" the fish they no longer count in your Possession Limit. By "process" it's understood to mean .... cleaned. The Possession Limit is 2X the daily creel limit, after 2 or more days afield.
I just can’t for the life of me figure why they have hunting conservation laws and people if we can’t even enforce our boarders from illegals coming into our country and doing whatever they want,,,,give me a break, we need priority laws before we need guys getting caught catching too many fish that probably die off anyway from overpopulation or pollution…
I’m all about enforcing laws,,, but some laws are just plain stupid and created to collect revenue
A lot of laws are in place just to collect revenue sadly.
Guess it is the way of the world
Here in Arkansas limits quite liberal .We can catch a limit for up to 3 days worth on a trip 3 days or longer cause possession is 3x limit . Daily state wide limit of 30 and no length limit except certain waters .Once you store them processed in your home / permeant residence not a travel trailer/rental / or camp it does not apply . Not all states are this way . Legally I could keep a limit and be legal every day of the year .:fish
I have seen many campers at our lakes stay for weeks to fish and bring freezers . Never heard of anyone ever even bothered by game and fish . But really no different than storing them at your home anyway . IMO :twocents
have no clue here ,but it might be 2 times the daily in your possession to cover them there over night gigs ?
I think as long as the first limit is before midnight maybe ?
but on a side note: I once had a police person tell me this after a person broke out the window on our car to steal a yard sale black hoodie off the front seat ,,,,,,,
Seems he quit patrolling our area and I made mention of it and he said , we are too busy with DWI drivers to do daily street patrols like we used to . Then went on to say I should leave the door unlocked and the window down so they wouldn't break it out the next time !
Well you can just imagine my reaction ..... I said you know what fella , why don't I just leave a 6 pack on the seat TOO and MAYBE you can ketch the thief driving while intoxicated ! ! !
Then he went on to say we lived in the "wrong" neighborhood ,because thieves liked areas where folks had valuable stuff ! Man was I hot as he talked and getting hotter with every excuse !
To say it started to get a bit dicey is an understatement and within just a mere minute or so he called back up and a 7 footer showed up quickly to help calm me down .....:Rofl
In retrospect , it was and or is mostly about the revenue created from a Dwi is my guess , first one in these parts is nearly $ 15,000 after you pay for everything involved , bet money, ketchn a thief dont pay out near that much for sure :banghead
This here police person told me it was likely just teenagers and no big deal and it made me even hotter as it was me having to pay for a new side window and clean out the glass shards ! When I got to that part of our conversation , my response was " I DON'T give a S%!# if it was a great grandma .....is when he called in some back up .....:Rofl
You should have Attachment 428082
Here in Wisconsin it is 2X the daily limit total in possession includes home or cabin per person.
I will say this about that , those folks ketchn and KEEPING that many fish in an outing are for sure POACHING !
They had a limit of 15 and exceeded it by 7 times the amount it seems to me in most cases and that for sure is poaching .
Saw a really popular Youtube fella doing that here locally one day , 2 times his limit and boasting about it , called the game warden and he was just to far away to ketch him at it , my tolerance for abusing the fish and game is just not all that good .:banghead
wife says mind your own business and I say no mam , it is up to me and folks like me that won't tolerate poaching to make it stop.
a fish or 2 over the limit is one thing and can be explained , 2 times over the limit or as in the case of those folks 7 times is no accident !
Those DWI's are certainly expensive from what I have heard
The revenue collected from fines rarely (maybe never) is kept by the law enforcement agencies. Many times the revenue goes to the schools.
I would think you guys would be aware of where the revenue from fines ends up in your area.

Easier to complain than to research, eh? Be nice to stick to fishing topic too.
