What I can tell you...the Terra is garbage. I have a travel max catch vise I got off Amazon for around 50 bucks I wouldn't trade for anything. And it definitely gets used.

Thanks. Big Fan of your work on your shop too.
I would want the rotary function. I’ve heard some good reviews on the griffin odyssey. If it’s not a money issue then look at Regal vises or Norvise. Personally for the money I love my Peak vise.
Savage Flies on YouTube has a couple review videos that are informative.
Thanks SuperDave336. Yeah... kinda a money issue. New and would rather not sink 150 on up into a vise not knowing if I'm gonna take to it. Appreciate the advice. Been eyeing the griffin.
Thanks MCG1
I know that you’re being smart with your money and I respect that. Just keep in mind that good equipment has a good resale value should you not take to it. Also, poor equipment is frustrating when it doesn’t behave. I hope you find one that satisfies your needs. I love my Renzetti.
Thank you Skeetbum.
If you are just starting out the Crown Black Vise is a good, sturdy, and simple choice.

I moved up from a cheap rotary vise to this more sturdy version and it does all that's needed.
There are quite a few pictures from forum members that have that vise in them too.
Thanks rezz93. Will definitely check it out. Tight Lines
The griffin odyssey is in my opinion the best vise on the market for the money....
Yeah I've heard many people that like and recommend that vise. So is that the vise you've decided to go with?
I have been using the Griffin about 6 years now and has worked well for me. Pretty good vise for the money.
Knowing what I do maybe save up for the one you want and like most. I look at the Peak as the best lower end of pricing for a good rotary, but I don’t know every vise out there either and am sure there are lots of new ones since I bought mine. Heck it too me several buys before I stopped looking, lol! First I bought a Danvise and used it for a year, then saw the Renzetti Saltwater Traveler with Cam jaw and bought it. Thought I was done, but then I ran into the Nor-vise and I bought it and still tie on it all these years later.
I also know there are a lot of guys loving the Regal Vises!

Thanks Burdawg it's definitely been on my radar
Thanks cray. Appreciate the knowledge
I personally am still weighing options SuperDave336. Narrowed down to a few now
Thanks skiptomylu... saving may be a option but man it's hard to not wanna start
My first vise was the cheaper AA vise. It worked but sometimes didn't hold the jig well. Saved and bought the Peak and I'm so glad I did. If there is one you really like then saving is what I would recommend as well. Otherwise like me I would never truly be happy settling for less.
I’ve been thru 3 vises and finally found what I like in the Griffin. I tie everything from #20 trout flies up to #2 sickle hooks on mine. Never had an issue with either…unless you are mass producing 1000’s of trout flies (I’d recommend the Norvise in that case), you can’t go wrong unless you just want to spend the extra money.
I have a Danvise and a Renzetti and I really like both of them. The Renzetti looks better on the bench but I can tie jigs just as well with the Danvise and it is a fraction of the cost. If I were to buy a budget vise now it would likely be the Griffin. It's all personal preference but like having a rotary vise with heavy duty base.
Started with a AA then went to a Apex like the one pictured on pg.1. Didn't quite work for me.
So, started a hunt with the goal of true rotary function and durability with a no hassle warranty.
Found it, but it sure ain't local, chuckle. Had to send my hard earned to South Africa. Yup, I got
me a J-Vise. Shipping was about 1/3 of the cost but well worth it. NOT for the beginner!!! This is
a vise that your Grandkids will find useful and still functional provided you maintain it as it should
be. The jaws will hold (very well I'll add), hooks from 20 up to 4/0. Get the midge jaws and you
can tye down to a 32. I have NO dog in the hunt, just what I found for myself. Have had it 8 years
now. Take it completely (Allen wrenches provided), wipe it down with a rag with a few drops of CPL
(Breakfree), then put it all back together. Takes about 30 - 45 minutes. A bit spendy but worth it IMHO.
