Seeking rod recommendations

So I've heard about St. Croix rods being nice. I stopped by bass pro and put one in hand. I was completely swept away by how light and limber the rod was. I'm seeking if there are any folks that have used them and if their worth the $$$ or if I would be better suited with something else. Currently I've been using my 2 setups that are both 4'6" ugly stick gx2 ultra lights. I enjoy them, but considering getting a longer rod as I see most crappie fisherman with longer setups.

I'm all ears for suggestions bless each of you and thank you for your insights and experience.

I have a 5 ft Outlaw and Falcon rod along with a 5’’ 8” Outlaw and a 6 ft Falcon along with a 10ft Outlaw. Haven’t used others so can’t say better or worse than any other. The I24 graphite is a big improvement over the ugly stick I 6 graphite as far as sensitivity for vertical fishing brush goes. I’m considering an 7 ft ACC but can’t find one yet. Don’t want to just order one, I have to hold one to see the feel. As that goes don’t just buy a rod. Put a reel similar to what you use to get the real feel for it.

I’d recommend two from BnM, the TCB rod and the 75th Anniversary Combo. Both are good and many many here would recommend the TCB rod which used to be the Leland Trout Slayer rod.

ST Croix are good rods. Far more sensitive than an Ugly Stick. If you buy the St Croix you will not be disappointed. The TCB rod is an excellent buy. While the TCB is assembled in China I’m pretty sure the blank on the rod is made in Japan. I have owned both St Croix and TCB.

Of course rod length is a personal choice. But the BnM TCB only comes in one length…..6.5 feet. ST Croix has many lengths. Personally I have rods from 4’ 6” up to 8’ 3”.

I have a St. Croix 5'6" panfish series UL. I like it very much. I had a gift card to use up and used it on this rod years ago. I've since come to prefer a longer rod, currently using 3 different rods of 6'6" length but still use the shorter rod with a smile on my face. All but 2 of my rods are less than $75. A couple were $25 20+ years ago and I still fish them, they are 5'6" as well. Longer rods usually cast farther, if that is a factor in your fishing technique.
If you've got the coin and like how it feels in hand, why not? There really is no right or wrong rod, other than choosing one that is too heavy in the action to make fishing for our panfish enjoyable.

The TCB is an excellent U/L rod that for pans and crappies will be a blast!

a 7 footer is a must if you are banking it in my opinion , just saying
the brand name is of course optional and then my next opinion is to go hold a few until one says "I do"
then try to keep the marriage intact and not get a divorce in the truck door ....:Rofl
lots of not so expensive great rods out there these days , it dont have to burn up a hundred to be a decent rod :cheers2

get what feels right for you if money isn't an issue but IMO the big dollar poles arn't worth the extra jack. would like to feel the ACC and BnM sam super sensitive but even BP didn't have them in stock when I was shopping so settled for their ultra light 6 foot rod with a gift card. crappie maxx 7 footer felt great and were adequate and have several rods of different brands that all do the trick.

Berkeley cherrywood's are very reasonable and really like them.

Falcon, Bonehead,BnM, all great rods I use every week.
As Ketchn says, watch them truck doors!

Gosh, Randy, I didn’t know that about the blank. Interesting. As you and others have mentioned, if you want to get an idea of how U/L works in a “JDM style” the TCB is a great rod to try at a very good price.

St croix rods are definitely worth the price tag. In my opinion, the Avid series and above are a huge step up in rod from their lower end models.

I bought one off of a member here a few weeks ago and I’m loving it so far. Much more sensitive than anything else I’ve got in the boat. And can sling a 1/8 road runner a county mile paired with my shimano syncopate. Very very satisfied with it. I had never held one before this purchase. : 2 cents

The TBC rod is one sweet rod I use mine for Trout Magnets.

I will admit I am a bit of a StCroix snob have tried GLoomis NRX`s and still come back to StCroix. If it is a presentation that requires lots of feel and lighter weight lures the StCroix come out. I do use much cheaper rods depending on how and where I am fishing one rod that really impressed me for jigging Crappie or casting is the Shakespeare 9 foot Crappie Hunter for $29 it is a huge win, light and very sensitive just fun to catch Crappie on.

I’ve got two of the St. Croix panfish rods, the 6’ and 6’9” ultralights, and they are very nice rods that I am very happy with. Mine are the cheaper of the two panfish series, made in Mexico I believe with a five year warranty, as opposed to the much more expensive panfish series made in America with a lifetime warranty. I find them to be extremely sensitive, but they say the more expensive model is even more sensitive. Not sure how that is possible because I feel every bite with the cheaper model. I guess if money was no object, I’d upgrade to the American made ones, but the Mexican made ones get the job done nicely.

I’m all over the board on rods, even have a couple of customs. My frugal nature doesn’t let me spend over about a hundred dollars on a rod or reel. There’s lots of good gear in that range. I advise you to feel the rod with the reel of your choice attached before you buy. Balance is very important.

Very true. It can’t be said enough. It can really be the difference between a rod you can fish for hours or a real dog.
