I love to use a float and most of the time I’m using a 1/32oz or 1/64oz jighead. How do you all feel about using the 1/64oz under a float with a small split shot above it? I generally never use a split shot and was just trying to see the advantages or disadvantages to adding a split shot.
I use a split shot all the time with a 1/64 under a panfish EZ Float. So far I have found that a BB split shot 8” or a little more up from the jig balances the float upright in the current. Now if the current is running a little faster I may add a small fly fishing split shot to get the drift keeping with the current. A good drift is important and worth experimenting with to get it right. How the bait stays with the current and doesn’t drag or balloon is critical, IMHO. In still water with a small float I would start with a B OR BB size.

I do enjoy working a jig and float inthe current. I have caught a bunch of fish that way
I catch a ton of fish under a float and the drift is very important as Bob said. I think I’ll experiment with it. I am about out of the 1/32oz I like to use and the river has a bit more current so I was going to try the 1/64oz with a small split shot.

They are Fun and I like a little extra weight and above the jig I feel like it make no difference to the fish. I need to start using slip bobber more!

The term "Cork" has been around for a LOOOOONG time, because they WERE made of cork back in the olden days. First time I ever used one was around 1960, it was a bottle stopper cork. (10' cane pole, nylon line, #6 hook, crimp-on lead sinker)
I am sure it is from the generations when a cork was used. That is what they were called in my area growing up. Those were great times.
I fished the Trout Magnet this way for years. Caught a ton of fish doing it…..using a size B split shot. Now I hardly ever use the float. Need to get back to using it.Quote:

I do , it works really well on smaller fish species
Less is more is the idea here , less things to go wrong is best .
I’m having to add weight to the bottom of the float to get a long cast. I am tossing it way out there so downsizing the float won’t work right now. If I was in a boat I would use the smallest I could get away with.
If you go as light as mentioned , then you downsize the line as well , just sayingQuote:
