Got this as kip tail...but its not as crinkly and quite long hair. Pretty soft and silky. Thin center...thinner than kip tail Any ideas? I have no idea.
Am sure its not bucktail.Attachment 423657

I'm sure what that is but I am pretty sure it is not kip tail. It does look like a great material to work with. Were did you get it.
I'm with you in thinking its not kip tail. I bought a bunch on ebay from a woman that was parting out her late husbands collection. Most was kip tail but this is definitely different. I tied a couple up and they look great but will eventually list them and would like to state what they are. Centers are pretty thin. I'm clueless.
Interesting. Definitely not bucktail. Certainly doesn't look like kiptail either
I would see if Skip would know. I’m a hackle guy, don’t know much about hair.
It does look like a tail of something maybe even fox. It does have a shine to it
My guess: fisher, mink, or squirrel.
It does have a bit of shine. Not squirrel as the hair is longer and the bone is much thinner. Comes to a point.
Dont think its fox as its not as fluffy. Never seen a fisher or mink tail.
Really appreciate your thoughts.
We should start a game show....Name that Tail.
Not Squirrel or kip Tail. I would have said zonker but the hair is longer than most zonkers I have seen. Looks like a soft fur as opposed to harder hair. Just send me a piece for a more detailed analysis after I get it out of a fishes mouth.
Kip Tail and Squirrel Tail usually are more identifiable. Marabou from a turkey is soft individual flowing feathers from the leg area on individual stalks. That is more like rabbit zonker strips but the hair in my opinion is longer that a rabbit zonker.
Check places like Barlow's or Janns Netcraft and google different types of fur for jig tying. You might get a match there.

This was a nice post on using squirrel tails https://www.crappie.com/crappie/jig-...as-bream-jigs/
It is soft. I'll send you a piece when I get back in the State April 28th. PM me your address. I sent Fatman a PM...he knows a lot. Maybe he has seen it before.
I cleaned out my inbox...was full. I'll send you a few jigs to try too. I the hair is a bout 3 inches long. I cut a lot of rabbit and its not rabbit. Really weird tail.

I have some black squirrel that looks similar, the other two guess came from asking a friend, bing:biggrin
I have some black bear that looks a lot this
Could it be skunk?
ClearCreek
I guess it could be. It is defiantly tails as there is a thin center....thats a lot of skunks. Dont think I ever seen a bear tail.
Here is a close up picture.

Don’t know what it is but it looks like it would be nice to work with. Also a shame it’s not a lighter color that could be dyed.
Hard to say by pics. Kip tail I’ve seen is more wirey. Looks long and straight like buck tail but tail looks like a smaller creature.
The hair does look like bucktail but is softer and very thin center unlike bucktail. Is a real puzzlement.
looks kinda like skunk tail to me. i bet it makes i nice jig
That hair on a skunk is soft and fine. Also shiny like what you have
Maybe its skunk. The only thing that makes me wonder is the very thin center. Its like an 1/8" thick. Very thin. Would think a skunk tail would be thicker. The last picture show both sides.
I have disposed of a few that were getting into the chickens. Some very soft fur on those things. It would be really hard to tell what it is just by looking
It's not fox as they are very rounded. I believe its Fisher Attachment 423801
That seams to be the closest. But the centers are so thin...about 1/8" I would think a tail like that would be thick as a squirrel.
Squirrel tail gets pretty thin when the bone is tripped out and the skin is left to dry. I have a few salvaged from unlucky road crossers
Cool...I'll go with Fisher. Fatman has been around.
Thanks for all your input. Has been fun.
