Hi All! looking for a little insight on braid. i’ve always used either fluorocarbon or mono and have always been curious to try braid but just never did.
I’ve been using Vicious products for a long time and have been happy with them.
It looks like they offer a couple of different options. Standard Braid in both Hi Vis Yellow and Moss Green as well as NO FADE Braid in the same colors. Looking at the 15lb.
Any opinions on these or do you have any other suggestions?

I use braid exclusively. My go to is Power Pro Slick8 in Moonshine color 8 lbs 1 pound diameter. I also have a fairly new spool of K9 braid on a reel in 5 lbs and orange in color. The k9 is a little cheaper and so far it is performing very well. The disclaimer. I predominantly shoot docks. I do cast jigs at times. I use braid for that as well. The majority of my fishing is docks
I vertical fish brush on docks so the braid gives you better recovery if you hang up. I use 5 lb K9. I’ve used a couple of others at this point I prefer it. Only downside to braid seems to be if the eye on crappie jig is not completely closed it will slip off. I do use fluorocarbon on my bass casting reel.

Sorry for the slow response, just got home from church. Thanks for your comments. I see that braid comes in a number of different colors; white, blue, green, yellow. Is this a matter of water clarity or something else? I also noticed that some folks talk about using a fluorocarbon leader and some tie their jigs direct. Any advice or opinions.
I wasn’t able to get used to the small braid, too many tangles ( On long pole fishing) I’ve since gone to 50 lb test and a mono leader using the Alberto knot.

A fish is going to see the braid if you are tying it directly on to it either way unless it is extremely stained water. No matter if it is camo braid or high vis. That is why I always tie a fluoro leader to be safe. Whether I am fishing for walleye, bass tournaments, or crappie. I prefer using Seagaur smackdown braid. I have used everything from 10lb-40lb in the flash green color. It is some awesome stuff. I would highly recommend it.
I also recommend the alberto knot.
I tie directly to the jig with a palomar knot.

I go to net knots.com for fishing or any other type of knot. It gives instructions and even animations how to tie.
Wayyyyy better than any you tube vid.
On a side note. I just loaded some 65 lb hi vis braid and tied a 4 ft leader. Works good on the 14 ft pole in the yard.
This will be my spawn rig . Fishing shallow 2-5 ft around trees in the wind should be the ticket.

A word of caution. Get a 6" section of a broom stick and keep it in the boat. When you get snagged wrap the line around the stick, NOT your hand. Braid will cut your hand right down to the bone. Don't ask me how I know.

I have my braid scissors attached with a length of para cord to my stick. Clippers don't work well on braid.
Braid scissors are a must. Also the scissors on a Swiss Army knife works well in a pinch
actually, SAW a huge crappie that defied imagination break my buds braid just this last week !
we were both in total disbelief it could happen and watched his float slowly swim back out to where he hooked it and slowly go under to never be seen again !
just in case you think it will never break , here comes me to say this about that , seen it happen before as well and it was a BLUEGILL that broke that braid and we know because my other bud snagged the braid after bud number 2 broke off ....:Rofl
so right when you think you got bullet proof line and it can't EVER break and has to be cut , it is me sitting over here telling you it could happen ....fyi
I have had some breakoffs. Braid is not the best at being abrasion resistant either.
but to be sure if the jig is snagged it will NOT break off easily and you can use it as a tow rope in other situations too .....:RoflQuote:

I just wrap the braid around my reel handle when hung up. I tie straight to jig in clear or dirty water. Have been using as my main line for 8 years now or so. If I’m not using braid I’m using gamma.

Yesterday Started using Strike king hi vis braid 65lb test with a 10 lb leader. ( Alberto knot)
It’s working great for pitching to cover
It’s just stiff enough it doesn’t tangle much in the wind. No memory and awesome hook sets. I need to be careful, almost straightened the on a big male.

A conservative drag setting can be your friend with braid
Absolutely, majority of the time. but I’m currently fishing very heavy cover around live trees. The big ones have to be quickly muscled out or they tangle and I say bad words…Quote:
