one of several crappie yesterday at a different spot in town was a really attractive "Arkansas black nose" coloration version of a black crappie ....aka MOHAWK :highfive
they really are beautiful fish , always seem to thump it hard and fight twice as hard as well .
cant beat a hard bite and good fight and beauty like that for sure ....

now mind you this , there was a few pale face folks in the crowd as well ....just saying :Rofl
and of course a few just plain ole regular black crappie in the mix as well :highfive
They are some pretty fish
btw , looking for a dozen or so EXACTLY like this jig .
known here locally as "ketchnz karrot" ,this version is a 1/32 oz. ball head , number 6 sickle hook .

I didn't think we had any here either, till last year...I caught a couple. Have to see where I have the pics. I know they weren't big, but they were released to grow larger...
they seem to run smaller for the most part to me , we see a few that are really big , it is likely due to the fact they are the most likely candidates to thump a jig really hard in most cases and get to ride home for dinner arrangements ....:Rofl

Some interesting articles on line as to how they came to be. If I remember correctly they were bred to be sterile so they could be put into ponds without over population concerns. The stripe was a way to identify them. Article called them Magnolia Crappie. Being a product of a Mississippi University
those are NOT these fish , these occur naturally and were used to make those fish , it is interesting how some say it is just a genetic pigmentation thing , but in the end it ,there likely more to it than that , the original versions are very possibly a subspecies of some sort .Quote:

They do seem to be a harder fighting fish. Couple years back I pulled a 13" one from under a dock. Soon as if came out into the sunlight. It exploded into a drag screaming fight. Thought it was an LMB
they seem to have a much more poor attitude about being ketched and often hit harder than a real mean fish .Quote:

They would have to feed in any direction that food was coming from. I have been told they feed on insects and things in and on the bottom. At that point there is not way to feed up
