Polarized bifocal fishing sunglasses

I just had cataract surgery in my right eye. Both eyes now have the same lenses. My first cataract surgery was in 2007 and my distance vision has been perfect in that eye. From all indications it appears my distance vision in my right eye is comparable to the left. I've had to wear progressive trifocal glasses for years. My surgeon and my optometrist both say I will no longer need any distance correction, just readers for up-close. Vicki and I made a trip to our local Dollar Store to check out their vast supply of readers. The 2.5 magnification worked best for me at the distance I would normally tie baits on or do tasks in the boat.

I need to buy a pair of polarized sunglasses with magnifier bi-focals for the boat. No way I'm going to pay $300-$500 from the Dr! I'm looking for first hand knowledge from those who wear such glasses on the boat as to the +/_ of the brands you wear. I've scanned the choices on Amazon and they seem limited.

Since I constantly look at multiple screens on the boat, is there a lens color that will work best for seeing the screens?

My Menards has a pretty good selection of polarized readers. I believe they are around $20

No clue as to what color lens work best. But try a welding or safety supply shop to put your hands on some different options

All major sunglass manufacturers offer glasses with readers built in. Mine are Costas and work well. Just a touch under $200 if I remember. Quality is not cheap and you get what you pay for.

I have 2 pair. One pair are Nike that work with my contacts a touch expensive and just a plain polarized lens. I know you can order different type lens even readers.The other pair that have different magnification are Oakley's. I'll try to find a link so you can take a look at them. The Oakley's are in the 1/2 Flak frames so they are really light and comfortable. They were around $120 about 6 yrs ago. I still have to double take on the electronics sometimes, but I can see my line from any distance.

DUX I am in a similar situation. I had both eyes done, one in September and the other in November. I ordered two different inexpensive brands and the one I like the best is Renegade Patented Bifocal Polarized Reader Half Rim Men's Fishing Sunglasses 100% UV Protection with Microfiber Bag.

I like them to the point I wear them almost everyday. I have only been fishing once since they came in, it was a cloudy/sunny mix but I am very pleased so far. Good luck on finding one that works for you. Funny I went from wearing one prescription pair to what has been several safety/reading, reading, sunshade glasses to take their place (lol). I am already planning to order another pair or two of Renegades. Can’t be much help with the different screens reading though.

I use Costa's with blue lenses. They've lasted for years and work very well for me. Seem to be very scratch resistant. I cannot see my graphs as well with them as I can with clear readers.

Don't laugh. Walmart. Ran west coast with the truck hauling cars back and forth from Calif to east coast. Our military boys and girls with a company called Pasha. Ran coast to coast all my life. Across those white sand deserts it will kill your eyes if you don't cover them I"ve owned tried borrowed about everything that fits over your ears.
I gauge how much polarization glasses have by passing another car or truck how clear I can see the checkerboard squares on their windows. If you understand how polarization works you understand that. Walmart is as good as any. I have about 6 pairs one in the car one in the truck set on both the boats just sold the pontoon had a set on there. couple of extra pairs on top the gun cabinet. They have side shields so your completely covered and their big. I wear glasses so they have the over the glasses ones. LOVE THEM. Would not buy anything else. . Best fishing glasses you can ask for. Light strong and they work. Less than 40 dollars or were. Have not bought a pair in a few years I keep mine in the case.
I like Brown. Not the green or gray. Talk about some beautiful sunsets get the brown. Brown brings the colors out. Green and gray mask it.

You may or may not know…polarization does not help you with sun protection. They need to block 100 percent of UV light. I have not found any color better than another for reading sonar displays using polarized lens. I worked 21 years in Saudi so a good pair of sunglasses was a must…not just for working outside but I was fishing either the Red Sea or Persian Gulf everyday. Did a lot of sight fishing using some Costa sunglasses…they not only protected my eyes but it is not hype that their lenses are truly exceptional for fishing. I’m not saying everyone needs to go out and buy some Costas but I would make sure I protected my eyes with a decent pair of sunglasses.

Check out Zenni Optical on the internet. They will make them just about anyway you want them at a cheaper price than most Optical places. They show you how to measure your glasses frames and everything you need to know at the bottom of the web page. I have bought prescription bifold glasses, sunglasses,and even the yellow tint field glasses from them.

Bud I buy the 3 packs of stick-on bifocal lenses from Amazon and stick them inside the glasses I already own. If you have sunglasses you like try the stick-on cheater lenses. Once I stick a set in they last me the life of the glasses.

I get my prescription sun glasses from walmart. 100% UV but the aint polaroid. They variable shade and variable focus type. 250$. When I get new Sunday glasses, I use the old ones for outside stuff. I don't buy every year either.

M R Dux, have not had both eyes done, but six surgeries on the left one, waiting on the right as long as possible after the first experience. As Alphahawk said polarization helps to see fish and structure but does not provide protection. I bit the bullet bought Costas, am not impressed, not nearly as clear seeing fish as my old Hobies, BUT the eye relief at the end of the day is very noticeable. I bought these flip downs from Amazon, likely cheaper elsewhere, they fit on my glasses and are handy, and I do not feel like I am stepping over boulders when I walk.
