Those should work real well. One I would add that works well for me is a tri-colored tube that is Red head, black body and chartreuse tail...
That selection of Bobby Garlands has most of my go to baits covered. Great looking assortment
That should get you started!!! Lol
This time next year you will have 3-4 more full of baits!
Good luck and welcome to the addiction.

Yup good looking “starter” box. The bug will get you then you will have tackle everywhere every color every shape…..lol. What you have should work and catch lots of fish. Good luck.
I narrowed mine down to fit my boat .This is crappie not bream or catfish . lol Attachment 421101Attachment 421102
Ya'll be careful or you'll end up like me. :yikes
I carry as much as both of ya'lls pictures show, and have 3 or 4 more tackle boxes/trays full of stuff that ain't seen the water in decades. I've even got a tackle bag full of cranks that weighs in at over 20lbs, and I don't Push cranks much since getting Livescope.
If I took all the rods/reels & tackle bags that I "think" I might need on a days trip .... I'd need a bigger boat. :biggrin But, the only problem with that is .... I'd have room for "more stuff" and be right back in the same situation. :fingerdance
I started out a couple decades ago similar to yours but then grew to those other pictures. My crappie box today is this. Being a multi-species fisherman I have a same sized box for Midwest Finesse fishing, BCF lures and Smallmouth grubs and gitzits.Attachment 421106

I did that with bass fishing I have boxes everywhere. I was trying to keep the crappie stuff in check....LOL
I kept bass stuff in check better than crappie because everything cost so much more than crappie stuff….lol.
I feel that crappie tackle will grow into the space provided. Somewhere it has to be part of one of Murphy's laws. If Plano would just make a transom section of the boat that the boxes could be snapped into to configure ones boat around his tackle requirements they would dominate the boat market. :Rofl
Maybe a Plano boat??
Tackle box with motor mount.
Good idea DSJ.

O C, Just be sure you have the right jigs to fish those lures - meaning: the right weights and hook size. Line diameter/# test is also important to be able to impart the right action, strike detection and hook set.
Thanks Spoon, I have 1/32 and 1/16 oz jig heads red, white, pink, black, plain some regular some sickle. 4 lb vicouis on one pole and 6 lb sufix on the other both hi vis. Bobber goes down = lift, bobber pops up =lift. line jumps to the side or tic's = lift.
The right action, I will have to learn. This is all I know about it at this stage.
Great OC!
Hook sizes: #8 and #6?
Not too keen on sickle hooks though very popular on Crappie.com.
When it comes to painted vs unpainted, my preference is unpainted so as not to distract from the lure or add to its visual size. JMO
Try this (though you got the right idea about using a float): Cast as far as possible, let the lure drop down by counting to whatever you find is mid-depth and slowly use the rod tip to pull the lure toward you and pause. Any slack, just reel it in making sure there is as little slack is little as possible. This way few light strikes are missed and hooksets happen fast.
One last suggestion: remove the curl tail and rig the mini-stick using a #8 hook and yer 1/32 jig. Use the same retrieve and note that the lure is now a mini-jerk bait. Cast it or float-fish it, you won't believe the hits! I also remove the curl tails and put two together using a candle flame to create a larger stick and rig it on a 1/24 oz jig, #6 hook:

Just a suggestion.
I could throw 90 % of my jigs away . I have 6 baits that I use unless someone says they are hitting something in a specific color . I am a strong believer in having different jig head sizes to change fall rate , Larger and smaller profile baits and rods with different line size .If I was to start over pink and chartreuse would be the only jig heads I would buy but would have 4 sizes of each . jigging = Bobby Garland 's baby shad in a "Patriot " , A blue and white "joker ". Southern pro's tube in Purple/chartreuse, Black/chartreuse orange /chartreuse and red/chartreuse . I give kids at church any they want .Casting ? Curly tails on road runners same colors . I have thought about giving everything else away or tossing them .
Spoon not sure on the hook size I will have to check, I just pulled the 1/32 an 1/16 off the rack at walmart , didnt look to see if it said hook size. but I do know some are to small for the jig body's. every thing else has been noted. thanks for the information I appreciate it.
Thanks Eagle, I dont have any black and chartreuse items. i will have to get some I guess, the water here is real clear so i didnt get to many dark colors.
And I like your boat , I have some of the Milinnium seats I took out of my jon boat when I sold it. going to put them in my bass boat better on the butt when your sitting all day. for a big guy anyway.
Any time OC.
Most fishermen have gotten suckered into buying every bait in a rainbow of colors they can find . Presentation and location way more important . I only use 2 tube baits and 2 weights unpainted jig heads . Livescope has shown me colors are more important to bait sellers and fishermen . Crappie usually bite whatever it dropped ( presented on their nose ) and done like they want . I favor holding it at or just above their nose with livescope . Many fishermen without livescope used to move ( over animate action in their baits ) :twocents You have a good supply of baits. Just need to find right area and presentation where you fish . Good luck catching slabs .:fish

We are on the same page NIMROD. Buying stuff based on ads is probably a holdover from the days when these guys were young, wanting whatever new toy they saw on TV only to ditch it within a week. BassMaster is the major source of lure & tackle ads and I can't be sure anymore
which are of value. Like you, I know that any lure I've posted examples of is capable of catching fish consistently. I doubt I'll be buying lures anytime soon regardless the hype.
Definitely a good start, I would highly recommend getting some of the itty bitty baits from Bobby garland or anything similar that another company may offer. It’s a common misconception for newbies that fish for anything, whether it be crappie, bass, walleye, etc., bigger bait bigger fish…not exactly. I catch more slab crappie on 1/32 oz jigs with the itty bitty baits than anything else I use. I’ll use 1/64 or 1/32 oz jig with one of the itty bitty baits on a med light 6 ft pole with a very sensitive tip and 4lb test line. It’s a finesse presentation but works on all sizes of crappie.

Hook size and jig weight are as important to me as the lure itself. The action of a lure is affected by a hook that's too long; hook ups are reduced by hooks that are too short; jig weight affects presentation - horizontal or vertical speed & drop.
I hate a mess in my tackle box or when storing tackle - especially small jigs with their small hooks all in a tangled mess! For storing jigs and keeping the hooks from getting tangled, I use storage foam from packages received in the mail. (Amazon, Ebay)
Slits are cut to hold hooks and keep the jigs seperated by jig weight and hook size.
This an example of the jig box I take in the boat:

For storage on the wall, I use the same foam and slits and keep them in a plastic zip lock bag. Jig weight and hook size are separated per bag and an inventory list is hung next to the bags of jigs hanging. This way I can keep track of usage and jigs I have to reorder.

Note that jig weight and hook size are labeled. Each bag has one jig weight and hook size.
Thanks
I wanted to see how I was doing on my crappie lure collection compared to other addicts after reading this post. I have 23 Plano 3730 boxes full of various crappie jigs. I only carry 7 boxes in the boat at a time and the rotate seasonally. That’s just my crappie lures, I didn’t count my boxes for other species. I realize the count is a little low compared to the more affluent fisherman out there. In my defense my collection is only about 37 years old. :)
