Fisherman usually have a few superstitions. What's yours?
This is going to be a good one
No bananas on board .
If you want to catch your personal best leave the net home. I've usually caught my biggest fish of any species when the net was forgotten.
I almost will not ever fish on Sunday..It just seems I have bad luck if I do
1.Never catch a fish on the first cast of the trip… I always short cast and reel it in super fast lol.
2.Don’t put water in the livewell/cooler until the first fish is caught.
Been told both of those since I was a kid.
I don’t fish enough to have any…lol
I don't have any superstitions, fishing or otherwise.
My favorite fishing "Words-of-Wisdom".
Red sky at night, Sailor's delight. Red sky in the morn, Sailor take warning!
When trolling I set up all rods first where they can't catch a fish. Then drop em all at the same time. It's similar to the first cast rule. Used to catch a fish on the first pole sometimes then nothing rest of the day. Got a buddy that calls bouy markers fish poison.

goose egg here ,was taught at a young age that superstition was not a tangible reality.
horoscopes were included in the teachings too.
so it bothers me none if you have some and or think your horoscope is a guide.
but for me , even though I play around a lot with this lucky hat or that lucky t-shirt.
it is by no means sincere. just saying
Grandfather ran the only general store between Lumberton NC and Feyetteville NC. Farmed 480 acers. He went to work at 5 am every morning cut meat till the help got there at 7, then went to the farm. Came back at 8 closed the store . Farm was about a mile from where he lived. After church we had to walk to the pond on the farm I was young, never understood why we could not drive. As I got older it came to me. I was his only grandson that was his time to walk and talk with me.
Man is still my hero faithful Christian father was the president of the NC Baptist Board for 4 years served 8. Dad won't fond of the fishing on Sunday grandfather made a joke on that one, said my father won't a fan of work either. LOL Never once seen him down at the farm working. :) Stayed with grandfather during summers.
Split shot has to be one and a half foot from the worm, cricket or what ever. Grandfather said it lets the bait fall little more naturally even needing that weight. . I do that still today. Now with Active target, I see he is right.
Double check the plug. YES I DID. Once. :) Thats the last thing I do before backing the boat in.
I'm coastal. Always run a VHF on the boat. I've helped two people out in my life that were in trouble. One inshore one off shore. Both times boat sank. I'm right behind the biggest Coastguard base on the east coast. Elizabeth City NC No matter where you are around here if you have one and need help they answer you the first time you key the mic. I get checked by coasties more than fish and game. Coastguard rids with the twin motors.
Installed the VHF on the new to me 190 yesterday. Moving that drivers seat over 6 inchs opens up a ton of room for extras over there under the shifter.
I always wear my lucky underwear when I go fishing.
Not a superstition per say. But I was always taught "you won't catch em from the couch". So even on rainy gloomy days I force myself out and those days mostly end up phenomenal

Nope. I do enjoy hearing about other's superstitions and the energy they put into believing in them. I guess every body had to have something to believe in though.
Not really... none for me! But I always seem.to.miss a fish when my wife calls me and I'm on the phone with her hahahhh...I'll get a hit and set the hook and miss it!!
I wear my contest KABOOM hat a lot and only fishing. However I have a new hat to debut at the KY Spring Fling. My KABOOM stays on my boat for wear as I am so thankful to have been fortunate to win one!

Remember it's just like lures. White side out on sunny days but dark side out when cloudy. Proven fact. [emoji854]

It's never catch a fish on the first cast for me.
I never fish on a day that doesn't end in "y" :biggrin
I'm not superstitious, just a little stitious. Anyone know where that's from?

I had a lucky shirt. Then I looked into the closet and I had not one but 2 lucky shirts. I still have a lucky although I do not know which one it is. Wife said since that one was lucky. I got you another one. :Rofl

We Always, Always, Always, had to buy and eat a Simon Hubig Fried Lemon Pie before launching the boat. Well the bakery burned so we learned to catch fish without the sweet tooth satisfied!
Never fill the livewell until I catch a keeper !!!

Carried a buddy from work longlining with me years ago. Set him up on the rear of the boat and sure enough, he soon caught the first fish of the day. The little crappie rolled up on top of the water and he skied him in. When he raised him up i told him to swing it around to me and i would take him off the hook. He did and i'll never forget the look on his face when i took the fish off and pitched it back in the water! He called me names i can't repeat and i just turned my back to keep him from seeing me laughing. After a few minutes he cooled off and asked me why i did that to him. Without turning around and facing him i said, i always catch the first fish of the day when fishing out of my rig. I then got another round of name calling from him. We had a good day of fishing with a nice mess of crappie to take home. When we got the boat loaded and started home he got on me again about releasing his fish. He was a novice fisherman that did not know about 9 inch limit on crappie here in Alabama. I explained to him that i could see his fish was short and that was why i released it. He told everyone at work about what i did and what to expect if they went on a trip with me! It has been almost twenty years since that happened and he still gets on me about it.
16 foot pan fish stick steer but bought a Tracker 190TX been tricking that out working on that none stop.
Yep pond on the farm was about 9 acres. Caught some 7 and 8 pounders in there. Sold the farm in 1991 GF wanted to see places I ;ived we stopped by there last month for the first time in 21 years. Speaking of bass. Mama and I eased out this evening. Nice bass and kept 4 big crappie.
Maybe a little different, but I never EVER say a bad word about my 30+ year old outboard when I'm on the water.
It can hear me, and if it don't like what it hears it won't start!

I just thought about one from the “Goins Fishing” gang.
We never talk about the wind when on the water. It’s name is George.
Like, George is supposed to lie down tomorrow, he’s been brutal today.
