I will be making some rather large jigs, 3/8 and 1/2 ounce with 1/0 to 5/0 hooks and flies with the same hooks. I don't want to have to wrap 2 to 4 times to get a full body look.
What size chenille will give me the most bang for the buck?

What size chenille will give me the most bang for the buck?
I tie up to 1 oz. On the bigger jigs, 1/2 to 1 oz I use a jig with a collar, crimp a little with lead snips and then put my chenille on. I use medium on 90% of my large jigs. Some guys like the bigger stuff so I tie it. For me Medium.
Check out Woods and Water Outdoors. Patrick has a bunch of the larger thicker chenilles which make for a thicker fuller body. Watch some of his videos and you will see him using it.

Wouldn't it save money by wrapping 20% less with a size 4 and pay 10% more rather than a size 2?
If I was going to do many large jigs I’d much rather have the larger size chenille and wrap once and be done.
So size 4? 5 or 6?
Personally I was thinking size 6 but I don't have samples to tell how big the sizes are. Just the chart on Danville site.
I tie 1/4 oz jigs and Woods and Water is the only place I know who sells X-Large new age chenille. No more wrapping 3x-4x times. The small extra cost is well worth it because it saves you on chenille.

on larger jigs i use eyelash yarn and faux fur yarn then trim to baitfish profile and i add some satin for accent
I found some large at a hobby store about 8 years ago. How it relates to our suppliers sizing, I have no clue.1/4 and 3/8 jigs look good with one wrap.
most of the eyelash is 1/2 or3/4 long.so wrapping it around the shank will be an inch to 1.5 inches in diameter so trimming like a deerhair bug is necessary. i often use two strands to make a thicker body and mix colors best ive found is yarn bee snuggle up yarn at hobby lobby and the fauxfur yarn [just like a rabbit strip] . use martha stewart gilt eyelash for flash. snuggle up yarn can also be furled to make a longer tail.
fish_for_any, Since I use jigs that have the lead collar I just wrap it with medium chenille. I just use the chenille as a scent pad and of course visual color accent. Medium keeps my inventory down as I have limited space for storage vs. carrying all the sizes that I wouldn't use much. I can see why folks would use larger but I just don't.
There are advantages to using both sizes. The large will allow you to wrap one time on those 3/8 or 1/2 jigs. If you want a tapered look then use the medium size. Would be happy to answer any questions about the large chenille.
