If you could only have one mold for casting jig heads for crappie, what would it be?
Ponyhead mold (horsehead style with no collar) all 1/32 one side and 1/16 other side do-it JH-8-1632. Made a very slight mod and use #2 hooks
I probably would choose it to have a collar for jigs but the mold I found had 4x 1/32 and 4x 1/16. I could always mod it to add a bait keeper wire if desired but that’s a lot in a single 1/32 underspin. Why I would choose no collar would be for hand ties and it’s perfect for that.
Tough question my friend. I love hand tied jigs but if I only had one mold I would go with the spring collar mold from 1/16 to 3/8 oz. I can switch tails in a moments notice plus one that is working can be left on and works for many times over and does not pull down the hook. One other thing that works easily is that a blade can be spun on and then a tail and I have an underspin, or as I prefer to call a chin spin. Pics coming.
1/32 round head pro mold, no collar.
I would think with the spring collar you could leave out the spring and cast with nothing, the lead would fill in but I think that will come off easy. I was thinking myself the doit herring underspin head could be a good one, good range of weights and can maybe not use the wire forum and make a normal jig head.

If I could only have one it would be anything from print a lure. Can have with, without barb, wire keeper or screw lock. Sprue twist off with minimal cleanup and over better poured head. Molds are around $100.
My favorite style from him.

TW that is true and actually the lead does not go into the spring cavity at all on the smaller jigs. I have forgot the spring a time or two.
Ball head no collar would be mine. It is super versatile and can be used for tying or plastics. A slight smack with a light hammer and it becomes a pill head. Use another tool and it has an eye socket. I use them from 1/32 to 1/4 all the time.
I like the idea of the head with the collar and the barb, you can tie and it will hold plastics on. I'm just surprised so many like heads with nothing.
TLE, I have one and it throws a bit light at 1/43 with a #8 hook. Perfect for my 2lb rigs and hand ties fall just a sneeze slower.
If I had money one it would be a minnow head that throws one of each size. While it’s slower to pour the weights can be adjusted by trimming collars off. Like Grumpys mold, it gets a lot done. The spring collar wasn’t around when I bought most of mine but it’s a good mold, looking at his.
Anyone use a underspin mold as a normal jig head
Hard choice but choosing only one would probably be the Freestyle mold since it takes a plastic keeper insert or you can pour them without and heads go from 1/32 on up and you can add eyes which I like on my jigs.
DrNip, love the eyes on that jig you tied. Where do you get them?
At got these ones off Amazon early last year. 1st time doing that. Finally got around to using some.

I bought the Randy Howell Herring Head under spin mold from Do-It. Then I bought the exact accessory wire forms that fit, also made by Do-It. Then discovered that the wire simply falls out after pouring. If you want to pour minnow heads without the under spin wire just buy this mold and use it exactly as directed, add the wire anyways, as it will not matter if you add the wire or not, you ain’t gonna get no under spin jig heads.
I modified it to where I can make a fine under spin. One that is solid and does not fall out on the floor. Easier and cheaper than using the silly wire forms they charge so much money for.
My best jig this year is unknown as I have made so many styles I can’t keep up. The addiction has me fully engaged in creating newer and better jigs. Each time they seem to be better too, but then soon after another one suddenly becomes better. LOL
Hilts 1/16 for tubes/plastics. Pony head 1/16 no collar for hand tied.
